Morning or evening workouts?

I have pretty much always worked out after work be it jogging, circuit training, elliptical work. Last week I started InSanity and have decided to switch up to mornings. Having to be at work by 8am means getting up extra early for the 40+min dvd. After a week or so of doing this, It frees my evening up and MFP calories is easier to deal with. I notice that I sleep much better.

your partly doing intermittent fasting. Your allowing your body the extra testosterone and growth hormone production before eating. Also any burning your doing is from existing energy sources not new. Logically thinking its obvious morning is better. Look up the 16|8 intermittent fasting and i expect your not far off it. Naturally if your in bed by 10pm and not eating till 10am your already at 12|8 as most people don't eat after 6-7 om usually.

I get up at 5.45am go to gym at 6.20am - 6.45am and i do HiT training so only need 20-25mins to exhaustion. Then i get home prepare my food and get off to work. Since i done this i am tired by 9.30-10pm and sleep like a baby. I tried afternoons and evening and just didn't feel the same. Also you go to work quite buzzed up and happy.

I prefer morning workouts. Sometimes I struggle with evening workouts because of a heavy lunch or an extra diet coke or two in the afternoon.

I couldn't agree more. I feel great when I go to work after a good morning workout. Even when I worked myself to the point I can hardly stand; after a shower and a healthy breakfast I head off to work in a good mood and feeling great.

It's funny, I always workout at night but when I workout in the morning I feel stronger. All depends on personal preference I suppose!

morning all the way. i'm up at 4-5am monday - friday to get it done pre-work. saturdays and sundays i sleep in until about 6am, but still get my workout done first thing, after a couple cups of coffee of course.

I'm a morning person too, on those days I oversleep and miss working out before breakfast I feel tired & sluggish (my wife says I'm grumpier.....)

I'm so used to morning workouts, it just feels natural to me. Up at 4:30 and to gym around 5:00. I notice that I'm more sluggish and not as driven for evening workouts probably because my mental state is not in the zone after a full day of work and eating. A good workout energizes me for my day and leaves me plenty of time in the evenings to get some things done.

I've done both, but I like to workout at night b/c I like to A) sleep in a little longer and B ) I like to use my workout as a way to relieve the stress from my work day.

By far prefer my 9am training sessions. Training afternoon or evening just feels off. I'd train earlier if my gym was open earlier, but 9 is pretty much perfect for me.

Either works for me. If i work out in the morning, more energy all day. If I work out in the evening, it wears me out so I can sleep. Like magic.

ETA: I do notice that I am physically stronger in the afternoons or evening, though. For some years now I do workout daily in the morning, but in the twice weekly evening yoga class I can do more difficult moves than in the usual 6am class, my body works better in afternoon/evening.

Both of these for me also!

I do work out in the morning if that is all my schedule allows for, but I will only do cardio. If I try to do strength training, I have to lower my weights. I am not as strong at 5am as I am at 5pm :) I don't mind swimming in the morning, however it makes me extra hungry all day. I don't like that part.

This! I did a workout session with a PT last Wednesday at 7am, and I was so hungry for the rest of the day. It was a mess. It was just an indication that I need to just stick with evening workouts like I have been, lol.

I'm currently doing lunch workouts (1 hour lunch). As soon as the weather gets unbearable (100+ degrees), I'm switching to AM workouts, before work.

Evening for the gym and lunch for my rides, except on weekends. I have too much going on in the mornings getting kids ready for school and whatnot and I have to leave the house by 6:50 to get to work on time.

I would prefer mornings and really enjoyed them before, but my 2 year old doesn't allow me to get to bed at a decent time. So, it's very difficult to get up early enough. I always work out in the evenings

I work a swing shift and have a lot of OT right now so sometimes my work day starts at 7:30am other's days 11 or 1:30. So my workout time changes depending on work schedule. Morning workouts help me focus evenings help me sleep. I'm not much of a morning person so most off days I'm there in the afternoon and really like that time

I love working out at night , I don't eat as much after.

    Always morning for me.

The gym is quieter, I get it out the way, I have a routine, clear my head before work.

Once I realised that I like BEING up early but I dont like GETTING up early, it was easier to build the habit ha. Plus I can get done everything I need to get done, without having to wait for some bam to stop taking selfies and just use the damn equipment. Folk who get there in the morning are there to get it DONE.
