What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I've been dieting since 22nd Feb and only lost 4lb. I have seen others drop it much quicker! What could I be doing wrong?

I have put my calories and net calorie reports here to show how many calories I have had.

Now I do have a slightly dodgy thyroid, however my doctor says that it is functioning fine, even though I have high thyroid antibodies.....

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    a) you are not regular and consistent in your caloric intake
    b) what are your stats?
    c) put you phone in charge you only have 6% left on your battery.

    Depends on your stats. If you only have a few pounds to lose, it's going to take longer.

    Also, patience. Lots of it. We live in a world of instant gratification these days, but unfortunately, weight loss doesn't adhere to that.

    IMO, 4 lbs in a month and a half is a good steady loss.

    You may be doing everything right, except for having unrealistic expectations. What's your height, weight, age, gender, activity level? What's your average intake? How much do you have to lose?

    Or you may be logging incorrectly. Are you weighing everything you eat before you log it? Do you double check every entry before you log?

    Or you may be losing fat and can't see it because of water weight fluctiations/constipation etc, and you can't normally tell if changes are due to water or fat - but these are clues: Fat loss is slow and steady and small but go on and on, and you can control it with your behavior; water weight fluctuations are usually large and abrupt but keep within a range, and you can't do much about it, and shouldn't worry about it either. Weigh yourself every day under consistant circumstances and keep track; Trendweight or Happy scale are much used programs to monitor (and predict) weight.

    You're either consuming more than you think or expending less than you think.

    • Double check all your frequent entries in your food diary, often MFP database entries are incorrect.
    • Weigh or measure everything you eat.

    Thanks everyone for your helpful replies.

    I am 5ft 2ish 10st 6lbs i would say my activity is medium, I have a horse so mucking out twice a day, riding etc. I walk to and from work and go to the gym now and then but am considering giving that up due to money issues.

    Now I know meal replacement shakes are frowned upon! But that is what I had been doing for a while and now slowly changing shakes for food. I am very meticulous about logging my food and I plan what I eat by working out if it fits in my calorie intake!

    I'll just carry on being patient!

    What is the sodium content in your meal replacement shakes? You might be holding onto a lot of water if the sodium is high.

    I forgot to say all my activity isn't logged on mfp as I have mi fit band but it's not compatible, I mainly use mfp to log my calories. I have map my ride which I sync with to see how many calories are burned etc

    Try changing up your exercise activity. Lots of good fitness blender videos and toning that can be done at home.

    Talk to an endocrinologist....you're Thyroid levels may not be in range for you.

    Same here. 4lbs down this month. This month focusing on 10 glasses of water per day, cardio 5x per week and getting my blood work done- checking hormone and thyroid levels.
    Good luck- I'm finding it hard to stay motivated but I am feeling better and sleeping better so I cling to those little improvements.

    My doctor doesn't really take my thyroid problem seriously, he won't refer me to an Endo and I can't afford to go privately, I don't think. I will just keep at it. :)

    Maybe you need to take in a few less calories per day?
    Do you weigh and measure all of your foods?
    Are you working out and drinking enough water per day?

    it's your doctor's duty to give you the best care and If you need to see a specialist, i.e. endo doctor, then he needs to refer you to one. I have hypothyroidism and it's been a torn in my side for 2 years but it's finally under control and I'm finally seeing results in the scale. goods luck with your doctor...keep pushing for a referral.
