5'1 and 108 Pounds

I'm currently 108 pounds and 5'1 which is a healthy weight for me, but I still have a stomach. I used to eat 1,000-1,015 calories per day but now I eat 1,080-1100 and have noticed a bigger drop in weight loss and would like to reach a goal of 98-100 pounds. How can I lose weight in my stomach area? And what exercises are most helpful for burning fat in the stomach?

You can't spot reduce. You're already on the low end of the BMI chart, so maybe a body recomposition will be a better idea for you.

I would bump up to 1200 cal/day as a minimum. Ideally, it'd be good for you to work up to a higher calorie goal to maintain your weight though. You need to fuel your body if you want it to perform at optimal levels.

It seems to me that you don't need to lose more weight. I would focus on hard resistance training (weight lifting). That will begin more muscle development and get you to lean up over time. If you eat to maintain weight and work hard at weight lifting exercises, then you'll lean up over time with more muscle, which means you'll be more fit, stronger, and overall in a better fitness situation

Thats low calories to maintain on, can you see yourself sticking to those? not very healthy long term imo.

Lift weights that are heavy for you and you'll see that stomach reducing, but be patient, it takes time.

I'm 5'1" and currently 107. I've been doing body weight strength training for a year and my waist is pretty small (23.5").

Strength training FTW. Add me if you like.

I've been where you was before I had my little girl. I found eating 1500-1800 calories a day, hiit training and heavy lifting made me gain weight BUT I lost inches and was really strong and toned going from a size 10 to 8 x

I'm 5'1 and 102lbs and still have a little tummy I could lose. Its flat but have that tiny mommy pooch. So weight training/body weight exercise was recommended to me.

Pretty normal amount for someone that short actually.....

Not for someone that young. Those are maintenance calories for an older person -- I'm over 55 and maintaining on more than that. She may be "skinny fat" -- reducing calories to such a level that she's losing muscle tone and mass. I also advocate strength training, pilates, yoga to increase lean muscle mass. Someone who is 108 lbs. shouldn't be trying to lose more weight.

You are quite short and therefor your numbers will seem lower than most people are comfortable with. Your activity level plays a large part in how many calories you can eat in a day. While your BMI is typically 'low', it is not too low.

It is not recommended that you go under 100 pounds. Additionally, the fact that you still see a 'pouch' of fat at your current weight and BMI would be a good indication that you should work on gaining muscle mass rather than losing fat at the moment.

Agreed. I'm 5'3", 31 years old, and 114 pounds right now because I'm at the end of a bulk, but I reached 109 pounds in February and got there by eating 1900 to 2300 calories per day. Unless the OP doesn't move at all during the day, those numbers are extremely low and can welcome a slew of health problems.

o_o what? I'm the same height (1/2 inch taller, actually) and 123 and my maintenance cals are like 1600. I have no idea how you eat that much.

If you have a very small frame, under 100 is not abnormal. I'm almost 5'2" and was 95lbs for most of my life with no maintenance. My mother was 5'5" and around 100lbs for most of her life. My Chinese co-worker is 5'5" and 101 and has been her whole life. We both look and are very healthy. I'm about 101 right now and still have the belly fat. I'm just concentrating on eating lots of protein with calories close to maintenance and lifting heavy weights. I figure over time it will recomp.

For her height, using the Hamwi method, her ideal weight is 94.5lbs if she is small framed, 105 if medium, and 115.5 if large.

You could try reducing the refined sugar if you have not already. The fructose half of sugar is shunted directly to the liver where it is transformed into fat. That fat tends to collect mostly on the stomach and around the face. If you've already reduced or eliminated added sugar then this might just be a hereditary thing. We all have places on our body that we hold a bit of fat no matter what and there's not much we can do about it after a certain point. If you are doing mostly cardio exercises like running or other sustained exercises I would agree that some HIIT and strength training would likely help. Just keep in mind that as you gain muscle you will likely gain some weight on the scale. This is not a bad thing!

    I am 5'2" 110 lbs 35 yrs
I've been eating 1700-1800 cals per day and doing stronglifts 3 days per week
I've maintained my weight while (slowly) losing inches. After reading through a lot of posts on here I realized that low cal and a ton of cardio wasn't going to get me the "toned" look I was going for.
I would definitely try eating at maintenance and doing strength training.

Yeah you're not going to be able to selectively lose fat unfortunately. usually my stomach is the last to go. I'd say keep doing what you're doin and add planks and body weight resistance, not heavy. That will prevent muscle loss and make sure you're burning fat.

    @moms23mangos

So true! I think average height people see the numbers and imagine it on them. Even some short people who carry their weight differently can look totally different than me at the same weight.

Working out six to seven days per week and walking 15000 to 20000 steps per day.

Do you have a source for this claim?

Start strength training. Lifting heavy will get you there faster than body weight training, but both will get you there, but it will be a process. It takes time. If you do strength train, you're going to need to eat more.

The TDEE for a sedentary person of 19 who is 108 lbs. is 1497 calories. If she's eating below that, she's probably losing muscle. I'm not going to get on the bandwagon of telling her that 108 lbs. is "too much" for her frame.

    I'm 41 years old, 5'2 and maintaining 120 with a TDEE of 2200/day.

    I average 15K steps/day and do circuit training 2-3 times/week.

OP I'm with others - you are already at a healthy weight for your height. To get the body you are looking for, try a recomp (eating a bit more but focusing on strength training).

This thing is bizarre. It says I have a "broad" body frame and another site said should weigh like 20 pounds more than I do. Lol.
