If "humans weren't meant to...", I guess we should all just stop whatever we are doing and reproduce all day every day, because that's what humans were meant to do. Right?0

I don't know...you make a compelling argument to use the "meant to"...0 -

it's ok...I wanted a more free discussion on this subject than the main boards usually give, so I understand how you people might respond.

I tried to set the context, but I think everyone assumed it was a blank canvas to be creative...

When we use the words "meant to" we imply that some mind was behind the decision of whether or not we should. Now if a person happens to believe in a creator and wants to use the Bible. Well there are passages in the old testament about how to prepare food including that a calf should not be cooked in its mother's milk. Implying that the eating of milk is fine by said creator and so is the eating of veal for that matter, as long as it is properly prepared....So if one goes purely by religion (Specifically Christianity) We were "meant to" eat dairy.. and meat. Of course this is putting aside the fact that the Bible only specifically endorses the use of animals for food after Noah got off the ark. So pre-flood perhaps humans were vegetarian and the creator changed his/her mind later on. But that's a whole other conversation.
I happen to believe that nothing humans do is something they were meant to do. We just figured out to do or not do things based on our positive and negative experiences and the positive and negative experiences of others.
Science says that ,in some cases, whether or not the positive or negative experiences occurred depended on genetic mutations. Our DNA has been modified and changed over the millennia to allow us to do many things that ancestors could not.
Just because a few humans have problems with dairy products does not mean that all humans should never eat dairy products. It just means that some humans for some reason lack the ability to digest it properly. Science thinks the ability to get useful nutrition from dairy is a genetic modification..."Natural selection" so for some humans it is probable that we are in fact "meant to" eat milk/dairy by Nature due to the DNA that we happen to possess that makes that possible.

usually you see this with cows milk or about some other food.
Can we evolve past this line of thinking?
It is small thinking to diminish yourself to animistic instinct, and those that do are just justifying some bad choice.
Barring mental health issues, everyone has reasoning and the ability to think (I know it doesn't seem like it), but the fact is most people choose to ignore both. Hence...lack of maturity as a species.0 -
