30 day shred and belonging to a gym

I just joined a gym and my goal is to go there at least 5-6 times a week. I also want to give JM's 30 day shred a try, but I don't want to not go to the gym for a month! Can I alternate, doing the shred one day and then go to the gym the next day?
If you do this workout and are a gym member...what is your schedule?

Do both. I go to Curves everyday AND do a Jillian DVD. I realize the workout at a regular gym is probably more intense than Curves, but I don't see why you couldn't do both.0

Yes! in fact, its not good to work the same muscles everyday.0

I do the Jillian DVD a couple times a week, but since it is only 20 minutes, I usually go do cardio at the gym for a bit afterwards. But you should definitely have rest days in between every couple of strength training (Jillian) days.0

Well it depends on how your body reacts to it. I go to a gym 4-5 days week AND am doing the Shred (When I have time, I'm so busy) Everyone said do the 30DS and add like 30 mins of cardio from the gym. Sounded great, except after the first day of the shred, I pulled my quads and was out of the gym for 3 days. It was terrible. Once I was better, I didn't pull anything anymore and was good to go!0

AND might I suggest you go the gym before the DVD. It makes it easier to work out because you're body is all warmed up.0

Towards the end of the school year (I work in an elementary school), I was often going to the gym as normal in the early mornings for either cardio or my usual strength training and then doing 30DS in the evening while dinner was cooking. It's fine to do both 30DS and the gym, though it's generally not recommended to do 30DS on consecutive days b/c you're working the same muscles in the exact same way (although of course the DVD is sort of marketed for you to do just that....). And if it's too much for you, your body will let you know! Enjoy your gym membership--mine is a lifesaver!

I usually go to the gym around 8/9 with my husband and we do cardio [about 45-60 min on the treadmill] then swim for another 30-45 min]. Then around 3 or 4 I'll do Jillian. It's working for me0

Ok good to know. I think I'll go to the gym in the mornings one day and then JM the next and so on. Right now I alternate between upper and lower body on different days for strength training. Would it be ok to do full body on the gym days since I'll be taking a day off the next to do JM?0

(I'm not by any means qualified to give advice like this, but...) I think it kind of depends how close your gym exercises are to the 30DS moves. For me, the weights with 30DS are so much lighter (3-5 lbs versus 12-20 at the gym), that it's okay. But if your weights at the gym are lighter, it might be too much for the muscles on consecutive days. I'm sure someone will speak up (write up?) if I'm wrong.... But it's definitely fine to do upper and lower strength training on the same day, if that was your question.0
