I'm already eating pretty healthy, so I plan on replacing my coffee each day with a cup of green tea. Apparently, it's a great belly fat burner. Can anyone testify to it?

Nope. A calorie deficit is the only way to burn fat.14

green tea has not been proven to burn belly fat. its just one of those things thats a fad. just like any food out there that claims the same thing. burning fat is done with exercise as well. but green tea has NO magical properties. if it had my belly would be flat by now.its not3

Exercise is a part of the calorie deficit. Restriction is the other. Those are the only things.3 -
I'm not entirely sure what you meant by that statement... But Exercise usually helps put one in a calorie deficit.0 -

You don't have to exercise to be in a calorie deficit. Yes, some will help, especially strength training to retain muscle, but even a 500-calorie deficit per day will give you loss that the tea won't.2 -

I didn't mean to say that you have to exercise. Just pointing out where it fits in the CICO equation.0 -
I'm not sure of the green tea diet, but I can attest to its benefits semi long term. I switched from a Starbucks latte each morning to an unsweetened green iced tea. I started this in April and realized, in October, I was down 10 pounds without changing anything else in my diet or activity level. That could just be the calorie deficit though. It's still a healthier choice than coffee with cream and sugar.0

You swapped a calorific latte for a near zero calorie beverage which automatically had you eating/drinking less calories per day

Well, then where's this magical tea you speak of? I drink green tea daily and have been for a long time. I drink it because it's tasty. But I'm looking down at my belly fat right now and it's still there, (but shrinking since I joined MFP and started tracking calories) so should I burn sage and recite some magical spell before I drink it or what?
There's no such thing as a belly (or any other kind of) fat burning food. Only a calorie deficit, with or without exercise.2 -
How do you think exercise burns fat? (Hint: the answer starts with C and ends with alorie Deficit).9 -
I drank four cups of green tea a day when I weighed 84 kilos, I still drink four cups a day today at 73 kilos, but the tea didn't have anything to do with the weight change - eating less calories than I burn did.2

It is true. Exercise is a good way to help attain a calorie deficit.
There are no foods that burn fat, and especially no foods that specifically target belly fat.
I wonder why no one ever brings up foods that target fat in other weirdly specific areas of the body.3 -

yeah, youre right you dont hear that this food burns butt fat,or this food burns thigh fat. now though Im sure someone will try to bank on it lol1 -
I find adding green tea helps me feel less bloated. I drink 1 cup of coffee in the am, breakfast is a protein smoothie (to fit my schedule), and I drink 1 to 1 1/2 gallons of water each day. At work I drink 1-2 cups of green tea. On days I don't get my tea I feel like I have more of a belly pooch.0

The only way to decrease fat stores is through a calorie deficit. I work out 1.5 hours a day with a manual labour job yet I still have fat on my body. How exactly would that be possible considering the amount of physical activity I do every day? What weight would you be losing exactly in a calorie deficit if not fat?

Green tea is a great for hydration & the caffeine will help suppress hunger.0

It is a better choice than coffee. It is nice to have a little break from just water sometimes and green tea is a great choice for that. But it isn't going to help you burn fat.1

Drinking green tea has its benefits, and I certainly love having it in the evening to finish my day. I, personally, feel like it helps me to be less bloated.
But no, it won't burn fat.0 -

Both tea and coffee contain polyphenols, so not much of a point to swap one for the other. Both fight diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Both are healthy without the added sugar. Why not drink both?0
