Thanks for this information! I put in a search for pre race dinners and your thread was the first on the list...I've run 4 different 5k's but tomorrow, I'm running a 5 mile race..I actually ran the same course 2 weeks ago to "check it out" and to make sure I could even DO 5 miles (4.5 was my PB on distance)..anyhoo, I wasn't sure if I need to carb load or not for this extra distance. I'm sticking with my routine for my 5K's per your advice, also because I'm familiar and I know it's what works for me. Oh, and btw, I was able to run the 5 mile course WITHOUT stopping! I was so stoked! I ran it slow and steady so that's my plan for the morning! Have a great weekend!

Great list! You got me psyched!

Here is a little tip I learned two years ago that works so well, especially in the summer.

Hopefully we all know about "Body glides" and vaseline to put everywhere fabric rubs, to avoid chafing. But my young friend, who has placed first place women in many races, told me to put anti-persparant all over my feet, to prevent blisters. Works like a charm!!!!! On hot days, when we run harder than normal, etc. It works great! I also use it when I go hiking.

Thanks so much for this advice. I'm running my first race ever, a 10K ( not sure why but have skipped doing a 5K...is this wise?!!) in May. Do you have any tips for training? I am doing the Bridge to 10K program and am currently running around 8.5K with two 1 min walk breaks.

Thank you for this! I'm running my first 5k in July, so ages away yet, but this will all really come in handy.

My first 5 k is on 25th! This was just what I needed to read tonight! Thanks for your effort! Am also interested in the running with dog issue. My lab is 9 months old and I would love to know when he can start rubnning with me. Did you know there is a Pooch to 5k programme??

Givemewings - I am doing the B to 10k also and ran 8.3ks this morning!

I just did my first 8km race a couple of weekends ago with over 70,000 others! This would have been great to read even though it went really well. I laughed at the de-shoeing comment... I did that to a lady in front of me. She was most annoyed.
