Breastfeeding mom: protein shakes

I'm looking for protein shakes or any ideas of meals that are high in calories. Most protein powders can not be taken while bf. Loosing weight rapidly and trying to maintain it and gain it back safely.

You can just eat higher calorie food. Peanut butter, add butter or oil to veggies, whole fat dairy, darker or fattier pieces of meat, nuts and seeds. My sister loves to eat ice cream while pregnant and bf.

If you want liquid calorie options, try making smoothies with Greek yogurt, milk, and fruit.

My wife wasn't told of any restrictions on whey when she was breastfeeding. Considering whey is milk protein, I would think it would be safe. Maybe there was some concern over the adders? Check out the below thread for high calorie food options.

I think whey is fine while breastfeesing. I use Designer Whey and have been breastfeeding for 20+ months.

I've read that it may help breast milk supply actually.

I wish I had that problem while breastfeeding. I hung on to the last 15lbs for over a year. Of I tried to calorie restrict or exercise intensely my supply would drop. It wasn't until my fertility returned that I saw a pretty big drop in my supply. I got pregnant again and miscarried...saw an even bigger drop in supply. By then my son was 14 months old and I didn't care so much about my supply anymore.

Lost 25lbs and my supply is really low, but didn't change much at all from when before I started trying to lose weight.. The low supply is fine because now it seems more for comfort than nutrition. He has drinks cows milk and eats food.

Ensure Plus Calories might be an option for you. Have you discussed this with your doctor?
