but here goes
I right now am at 250 and am trying to get back down to 100.
i have seen a lot of diet show on television where someone has lost a lot of weight and had loose skin afterwards they needed surgically removed
Does anyone know if that could happen to me?
I dont know the amount of weight loss that is usually associated with it

Not sure considering the amount you want to lose. If you do it slow and steady, and pay attention to toning exercises, you should be ok. TamTastic would be a great person to ask about this because she just lost the last of her 135 pounds and her pics look great!

I'm not completely sure, but I think the loose skin tends to happen when people lose a lot of weight quickly. The skin doesn't have time to adjust and ends up being loose and hanging. Doing it the right way of a pound or two a week and working out could prevent this, but again this is just my speculation.

I know your post wasn't really about this, but did I read right that you want to get down to 100 pounds? I know there are people who do weigh 100 and some of them are perfectly healthy, but I don't think it is necessarily a good weight to shoot for. My best friend is just naturally skinny despite eating like a horse. I know there were times that she probably weighed 100, but she didn't look well. I think she probably weighs around 110-115 right now and while she is still very slim, she looks healthy. I would definitely discuss a weightloss goal with your doctor.

Also when you have quite a bit of weight to lose it's best to set yourself mini goals along the way. Losing 100 or more pounds can seem quite daunting and can easily make someone give up because it seems too unattainable. But seeing mini goals like 20 pounds at a time gives you something more realistic to shoot for. Good luck!

At 41 your skin isn't as elastic as it was when you were 22, so if you're asking if you'll have loose skin after you lose 1 and a half times your goal weight? I'd say yeah, there's gonna be some loose skin there. You can minimize the effect by not losing too fast (as stated above) and you can you can maximise the "snap back" by eating healthy and getting plenty of vitamins and sleep. But in the end, you probably will have some areas that will need work.

There's really no way to soften the blow. I commend you on beginning the journey toward health again as so much of us have. And I understand it's a worrysome trip, especially at the beginning when it looks really hard, but many of us have been there and back, and many more are in process right now, and we're all here to help. So just remeber, this community is here to get you through it, and also to (hopefully) keep you from becoming discouraged and delusional.

    Best of luck to you.

    Hey there!

Well, the best way to get your body to bounce back as well as it possibly can is to lose the weight slow and healthy and to exercise!

I feel good for the most part! I mean there are some parts of my body I don't like because of the abuse I put it through, but what can ya do?? I mean, I could sit here upset at the parts I don't like or focus on how much healthier I am, how much better MOST of me looks and how much more fun it is to shop!

We are always our own worst critics and even losing weight we find something negative about our bodies. I think that will happen until the end of time with women.

But is worth it to lose the weight and get healthy! Trust me!
  • thanks everyone for the input
I didnt think i would have to worry about it TOO much
    but wanted to double check

Even if you do end up with loose skin, skin alone is easier and safer to surgically remove than skin and fat. I know of one person on this site who had her loose skin removed after she lost a lot of weight and she looks great.

I think a lot of it depends on your bone structure, body type(muscular, slim) and your age and health stats. I am only two inches taller than you, but I have a rather muscular frame, so 100 pounds for me would put me in the hospital. I am shooting for 150 and then I will reevaluate when I get there. But without knowing anything else about you (and without being a doctor) I really couldn't say and you probably should talk to your doctor about it.

I'm 5'3 and right now at 115 pounds....and i don't like it, dropping another 6-8, i'm muscular, but I still want to lean down, when you have muscle on your body, and you lean down, your definition shows, you lose the layer of fat covering the muscle,I think at 5 feet tall 100 -110 pounds is on the money!

I'd tend to agree with the 100-110 being ideal for 5'0" with 110 being on the more muscular side.

One of my friends and I can share clothes from time to time. She weighs 15-20 lbs less than I do in any given week. The only difference you can really see (in clothes) is that her arms are much skinnier (since she doesn't have any muscle there). We're both about 5'5", but she's 115-120 and I'm 135.

Of course, every body is different... But as another example, my former personal trainer is 5'6" and built like a body builder. He weighs 140, and the heaviest weight he ever reached (when he did competitive bodybuilding) was 160.
