OK... I hear alot about diet drinks... I drink ALOT of Diet Mountain Dew... atleast 2 a day, & up to 4 or 5... I consider that alot...

How much difference would it make to cut those out??? They are zero cal, zero sugar.... I don't have them for the caffiene effect, I just LIKE them!

I'd love to hear opinions of either side yes or no.... Thanks Ya'll~:flowerforyou:

No soda is good for you.. and this is coming from someone who drank 6-8 pepsi's a day!!

Diet soda has actually been proven to make you crave real sugar even more (because of the artificial stuff in it)

Sure they taste good, but they are pointless to drink.

Over coming my addiction to caffeine and soda in general has been the hardest part of my weight loss, But after a while, you get used to and the stuff starts to taste gross...

I have the same problem too! I'm addicted to Diet Coke :)

I've read a few research articles on the subject. Some claim the artificial sweeteners may make you more inclined to eat more sugar. Long term studies have shown people who drink diet sodas have increased abdominal fat over their non-soda drinking counterparts, even when other factors (diet, exercise, etc) have been taken into consideration.

That being said, they don't add any actual calories to your diet. Despite knowing that water (or tea for the antioxidants) would be better for me, I'm not going to give up my diet sodas :)

I'm not really sure, but just wanted to say be careful drinking that many diet drinks per day. My mother's friend ended up in the hospital with what she thought was M.S., and it was side effects caused by the artificial sweeteners in diet drinks. She would drink 4-6 per day everyday though. She was also having trouble going to the bathroom after this started happening, and it sounds gross, but she ended up peeing foam while in the hospital too, once they started to get her hydrated and off the diet drinks for a week. After a week her symptoms completely went away. I drink diet drinks maybe twice per week, if that much, and if I do its usually only one 20oz bottle. I like to have the carbonation/flavor from time to time, but that always worried me after that happened. =/

I try to limit myself to 2-3 a week. I don't think its bad in moderation though cause the sodium is pretty low. If you drink your 8 glasses of water a day, its actually really hard to drink anything else.

Diet drinks can be misleading. Your body processes the artificial sweetners just like sugar (according to my friend who is a nurse)--your body releases more insulin & that can help hold onto unwanted pounds. Alot of times I've heard that the artificial sweetners can make you crave sweets/sugar. I personally found that when I stopped drinking Mt. Dew--full calories--MY FAVORITE, I'm less puffy in my belly area. I will still drink a Mt. Dew every once in awhile (1 every 2 weeks) because I like the taste--I just account for it in my diary. Good Luck!!! :drinker:

I was a huge Diet Coke addict, but have started drinking Diet Rite instead (I don't care for the taste as much.. Splenda tastes too sweet to me).. 0 Cal, 0 Carbs, 0 Caffeine, 0 Sodium. :) I only drink 1 or 2 of those a day, which is much better than my 6-10 Diet Coke habit.
