There are no long term studies documenting the safety of ketogenic diets in healthy people. Lots of people think they are perfectly safe (and they likely are), but theres no proof. Most if not all of the studies done with any length of time were conducted on sick people.

There is some benefit to ketogenic diets over simply reducing calories but the difference is so small that even tiny inaccuracies in calorie counting will be greater than the benefits. Unless directed to do so by a doctor for diabetes or some other disease, theres no reason to do keto unless you simply enjoy it. Some people love keto, have tons of energy, and can stay on it for life. Most people (including myself) cannot, so a balanced diet is better for them (and me). Its up to you.

If/when you reintroduce carbs, expect to gain a good chunk of water weight. Water binds to carbohydrates as part of the glucogenesis process. Its not fat - dont get discouraged.

Some people do whats called a "refeed" where they reintroduce carbs briefly to restore muscle glycogen. I'm unaware of any studies showing whether or not refeeds are beneficial, but anecdotally they seem to help with strength and endurance.

At 6 foot, as a male at 151 pounds, why not switch to lifting heavy weights to give you a better physique? I wouldn't think losing more weight would help you at this point.

I did well on keto for about a month but the managing of it and ensuring carbs are kept very minimal was a big time commitment and kind of difficult especially in social situations. One day I had a regular amount of carbs like I used to have pre keto and I felt very ill and all the water weight returned and it just was unfortunate. It is hard to stick with long term I found.

According to Atkins, and some Ketogenic websites you can stay on Keto indefinitely and some people do because it makes them feel and function better, and some others do it for health reasons inc blood sugar/insulin problems etc.

Alot of people who are finding it hard to keep their energy levels up actually benefit from increasing their carbs more, especially people who work out.
You know you can eat upto 50g carbs a day and still be in Ketosis, or you can eat more carbs than that and not be in Ketosis but still lose weight just as successfully.
If you are eating 30g net, why don't you try upping it to 50 first so you can stay in Ketosis and see how that affects you?

Although many people chose going ketogenic/LC as a lifestyle choice. For someone who may want to temporary burn body fat I wouldent suggest it no more than 2 1/2 3 months or less or more. That's just my personal opinion. But you can figure out what works for you. carb cycling works good too coupled with HIT weight training to burn fat. I agree with someone else here suggesting transitioning into weight training will help. Recovery days are important regardless of the type excercise you do. You don't want to overly stress your body but creating huge deficits and regular high energy outputs. cardio interval training is good too. At your height & weight, strength/weight training would benefit you more.

    Hi
I have been on LCHF diet for 7 months and lost 13 pounds in 5 weeks. it's the best thing I have done for my diet. And it is NOT dangerous to eat low carb long term. It takes around 3 weeks for the body to adapt properly to the low carb. Stay between 30-50g of carbs pr. day and you will be in good shape. Weight training is a good idea, more muscle burns more energi.
