Has anyone ever tried the Atkins Diet?

If so, did it work for you?

If not, why not?

Please let me know.

Yes, I'm doing it now. It really does work and my doctor is backing me all the way.
    Have a look here http://www.minimins.com/atkins-diet/

Yes, and it killed my Gallbladder. I had to have it removed. At my pre-surgery appt. the surgeon asked, "Did you by any chance do the Atkins Diet?" Call me, Stupid, but I never had any clue then that it could cause harm to my body. If you need a jump start to a diet than do a cleansing diet. One that cleases the toxins from your body and starts you 5-10 lbs down on a fresh start. IF you wanna do Atkins Diet due to "my body works better when I do low carb, high protein" than choose the better option, "South Beach Diet".

If I can help someone to NOT go through what I did than I hope to. Please feel free to private msg me with any questions. Or if you'd like advice on a great Cleansing Diet for jump start.

I understand if you wanna try it anyway. No two bodies are exactly the same, but it was funny that the surgeon asked the question.

    Take care.:flowerforyou:

I did it a few years ago, it worked really well; I lost about four and a half stone (63 lbs)

    But...

It is so bad for you; the amount of cholesterol and salt you eat, due to the amount of animal based protein you consume is huge!

Yes, you lose weight, but (in my experience,) you feel awful. I wouldn't recommend it!

I did Atkins about 8 years ago. The only good thing is that I dropped the weight really quickly. It worked great, until I started eating carbs again. If you are able to say goodbye to breads, baked good, etc., then it should work. Otherwise, just try watching your calories.

I'm trying it right now with modifications. I'm eating poultry and fish. I may have pork or beef once in awhile but the main staple is poultry and fish. By doing poulty and fish I've never gone over on sodium or cholesterol.

I went on it a long time ago and I hated all the meat you had to eat. I've been on it for almost a week and I have lost weight. It does work but I'm not going to do it long term. Good luck!

I did this last year without knowing I was actually on the atkins. I was eating around 40 carbs a day but that also meant I reduced my calorie intake by a lot! My mood was pretty low and it was hard to focus (according to other's observation of me) but I lost a lot of weight this way. I've not done low carbs for a while now but I think I'll need to if I want to lose a few more pounds. I don't miss all the carby bread and pasta tho.

Atkins does work. There are too many success stories out there of folks who are committed to making this diet a part of their lifestyle. For me, the induction symptoms were too much for me to bare. However, there are those who have no symptoms at all. I just read that if you are having any ills due to the induction you can increase your carbs. I am going to try it again, but this time I am going to try it at a 40 carb level as opposed to a 20 carb level. I wish you all the best.

I tried it for a couple weeks. By the end I felt so bad I didn't want to eat anything at all. It was AWFUL, head swimming, nauseous, depressive, trouble thinking or concentrating, and it just got worse day by day. I don't know if I was feeling that way because I was starving or because of the diet, and I don't care if I would've adjusted if I'd stuck it out. Never again will I have a diet that makes me feel crappy.

That said, I currently eat about 25% of my calories from carbs. I find it makes me feel much less hungry, despite eating only 60% of my maintenance. Protein keeps me full and fat keeps me feeling sassy (all my favorite foods are high fat), the carbs are there just for variety, and because they taste good, and let me eat a much wider variety of my favorite foods. Man does not live by veggies alone. Except raw vegans, but I can't deal with that sort of diet, it's almost worse than the Atkins.

I'm doing it now, have just had my seventh WI, 23lbs down. (I did have a couple of slow weeks). I am all for it. I feel amazing and full of energy, along with meat and fish I eat plenty of veg and salad. As I get nearer to my goal weight I will introduce more carbs but I'll seek them from better sources than white bread/rice or pasta. My only problem with it is the lack of fibre but as I say, I'll address that later. My priority now is shifting pounds and naughty old Atkins is helping me do it.
