Am I sedentary??

Question here....I have my profile set on sedentary because my work is just that, not a lot of moving around. However, I don't work full time and I also have two little kids who are SO busy. I almost never sit down when I'm not at work and I'm with them. Even meal time is up and down to get things!!! So I'm curious if I should change my sedentary setting or just leave it. I'm losing at a nice steady pace so I don't really want to mess with that. Just curious as to what others set theirs at.

    Does your steady weight loss correspond with what MFP is predicting? If so, you are sedentary. If you feel you are losing too much too soon, you could either change your activity level or increase your calories. Personally I like to always keep my activity level at sedentary.

    Just leave it at sedentary and that way you will lose a little extra few lbs in the long run.

    Are you feeling tired (more so than every Mom of small children) or constantly hungry? If the answer is no and you aren't losing more than 1-2 lbs per week, let it where it is. If yes, then you likely aren't getting enough and should adjust your settings.

    Having energy to care for your kids and taking care of health is WAY more important than a faster weight loss, imho.

    You could be classed as lightly active.. I think if I was moving around most of the day I would think of myself as lightly active. Sedentary would make me think of someone virtually sitting down at work all day, get home eat and sit and watch tv in the evening. But the others are right, if you're losing weight too quickly that should help tell you which one you are.

    I'm similar, I have 4 young kids and when I'm home I pretty much don't sit down until they go to bed. My job is sedentary but I work 20 hours a week. I was starting to get hungry all the time so I changed my settings to lightly active. I'm in maintenance now though so I'm working on getting my number right.

    By definition you are either lightly active or active.

    A review of how much weight you are losing as per your trending weight app and comparing that to the deficits you think you have will tell you whether you need to adjust anything....

    I work full time at a desk job but with 3 kids I average 7k steps a day not including exercise. I am seriously at 2k steps by the time I get to work (and I drive to work).

    But if your happy with the rate your losing, the amount of food you are getting and arent completely exhausted I'd stick with what you've been doing. Just be mindful that you dont really have as much cushion to move cals down later if you feel stuck or when weight lose slows down.

    Thanks for all the replies everyone. I am 5'5, starting weight of 166lbs and have lost 12lbs in 5 weeks. I have started to feel really tired this last week. So after reading the comments, I'm wondering if I'm not getting enough calories and maybe I should change my sedentary to lightly active. I like the weight loss but don't like feeing this tired.

    I also forgot to mention that I'm hypothyroid and my meds have been off so that's why I thought I was so tired lately.

    If your meds are off, things will get better when your dose is adjusted. But when you say tired, do you mean tired? OR Sleepy? I have hypothyroidism and was too tired to function before it was treated. But before my sleep apnea was treated, I was SLEEPY. I slept over 12 hours every day. Do you get proper sleep?

    Well...you could do it either way. Set yourself as sedentary and eat a little bit of calories back, or...use lightly active, in which case I would eat nothing back. Either way would probably even out, at least it did for me. Personally I would stick with sedentary and adjust accordingly.

    I sleep well, at least 8 hours a night. But I'm tired during the day. And by 8pm I'm ready to go to bed. My meds have been off before as I seem to fluctuate alot, but this last week I've been extra tired. After reading other forums, I think I may not be getting enough calories and after 5 weeks it's started to catch up to me. I've changed to lightly active and its added 200 calories a day.
