Garmin and MFP interplay help??

Hullo Newbie here - I don't really get how the step tracking Garmin connect- MFP and back and forth works. (I am using the Vivofit 2) Do I need to manually add my steps/the time I spend walking in MFP? (I haven't so far really tracked the time.) It seems to make calorie adjustments in MFP based on the Garmin's step counting pretty much at random?
Any insight info etc. will be appreciated. My brain is pretty foggy so maybe I'm just not getting it... thanks!

With supported apps there should be adjustments when the calorie expenditure of the app / device exceeds what you set in MFP as your activity level. So in general you wouldn't need to log walking running cycling etc in MFP if your tracker clocks that OK.
If you do enter activity in MFP also log the times to avoid double counting.0 -
