@PoppetsMaster Welcome back! I still remember your previous two nicknames; you were taking part in this challenge already when I first found it, and I was absolutely in awe of the miles you did, really inspiring. Great to have you back!
--
Brrr, as I'm writing this, I'm still trying to warm up. It got really cold again here all of a sudden! Okay, 3°C isn't that cold, but somehow the drop in temperature didn't register with me, and I headed out in shorts and a shirt.
Worse than that, these were shorts I hadn't used for a while, and they seem to have gotten worn out - they were fine last summer, but today I constantly had to pull them back up. It was a horrible run clothing-wise, but I threw in some faster intervals to warm up a little, so I guess at least I can chalk it up as speedwork!
And I've reached my goal for the month, with an entire weekend still remaining

11 km run with 8 members of our local Club. Broke into 3 Different Groups, Speedsters, Average Gang and the Walking Wounded. All ways like seeing the injured out walking as that means they are getting better.
Uphill 5km on Pats Creek to the Top of the River Valley, across the top on some Bush Trails ( lots of Mud Bogs ) and then downhill on what we call the 12ft trail. It was a really nice run and great company. Not saying that we were Lost but the walkers got back to the Recreation center parking lot before we did. We were out for 75 minutes which is about 9 minutes off pace for 11km but we did have Viewpoint stops and Trail Guessing stops, it was a really good evening with a Temperature of 18C / 64F.

Yay, you're back!I'm now on day 3 of no running, and I feel like I'm slowly going insane o.0 The good news is that my knee is feeling a lot better today. Not 100% pain free, but very milk pain that is only there some of the time. Hamstring and hip both feel completely back to normal too so I'm pretty excited about that. Assuming things don't worsen over the course of the day, I'm going to try a short run tomorrow to see how things feel. I can't even begin to explain how much I'm looking forward to it!!
@ariceroni Ooh, good luck, sweetie! Hoping hard it all goes well.0 -

Notes on Today's run: Today's assignment was 40m-1h at E. I ran a normal 5 mile route I have that goes over a couple longish rolling hills outside of town. I did go too fast this morning 10:30 is the bottom end of my E range according to McMillan). I'm starting to think that the problem is that it feels easier than it actually is some of the time. I have no real problem holding the 10:30 pace for the whole 5 miles, and could do more at that pace without feeling dead, but part of me thinks I'm going too fast. Anyway, the run was good, it's nice running back East facing the sunrise, which was beautiful this morning, with just enough clouds to add some nice purples to the orange and yellow sky. Overall, the run felt good, so maybe I am OK taking it at this pace.
Side note 1: I LOVE my new Brooks Glycerin 13s! They are a tiny bit heavier than my Nike Pegasus 32s but are so cushy that it's amazing.
Side note 2: On the back end of my run this morning I had one of those realizations.....a year ago, a 5 mile walk/jog of intervals might have capped off a 3 workout week and been the only run of the week. This week, after 3 runs, I'm at 13 miles and 5 milers are part of my normal midweek routine. I may not be fast, but it's really cool thinking about the progress I've made.5 -
The Bible verse story and the subsequent discussion seriously had me laughing. I agree - both Psalm verses definitely apply to some of my runs!
So...I just got my bib number and corral assignment for the Broad Street Run on Sunday. I am a bit disappointed. Now, I know I am slow, but they have me in the last corral...with the walkers. I'm going to do my best to get into the front of the corral, but having to weave through people walking annoys me to no end! The past handful of years has seen about 35,000+ finishers in this thing. I am a middle-of-the road runner. I consistently finish right in the middle of pretty much every race I run (except for that one race where I made a wrong turn and had to ask a Philly cop for directions). I expect it to be ungodly crowded, and I am doing this race simply for the experience, but I'm still slightly annoyed. It's a bucket list run for me, and I had to defer from last year due to my injury the month before. Maybe my deferment is why they put me last? I honestly don't expect to run this race again, at least not any time in the near future. Maybe they know what they're doing by putting me in the corral they did? On a positive note, the 10 miles is dead straight and slightly downhill the entire way with the exception for both being the detour around City Hall. I guess we'll see how it all goes on Sunday.0 -

@instantmartian Can you get the corral assignment changed at the expo? Just tell them some of your current race results and they should be able to cross out and write in a different corral. I've done this at a few races when I've gotten faster over the course of a season and realized my predicted finish was way off.1

A hard 6.2 miles today, I thought I was ready to take on a steep long hill out on the back lanes. I was wrong. For the first time since starting running I had to stop and walk a bit up a hill. I think I'll give it a month or two and then give it another go. I kinda like having another goal to work towards.
I've got one more run planned for this month which is going to leave me just under 3 miles short of my goal, hopefully next month I'll finally hit 60 miles3 -
Life is crazy and busy right now. Having a tough time running, let alone getting here to keep up with everybody. :-(
4/1 - 3.5 miles on indoor track + weights/abs
4/2 - Life day
4/3 - 10 miles. Very windy.
4/4 - Rest day.
4/5 - 4 miles on the treadmill, then weights/abs.
4/6 - 4.3 miles. Cool, damp and breezy.
4/7 - 4.5 miles on treadmill (Trek class)
4/8 - Rest day...lots of housework/painting/yardwork
4/9 - 4.05 mile trail race...super fun with local microbrews at the end! Had way more fun than I expected!
4/10 - Skipped my long run due to back pain / spasms. Not sure if they were from the trail race or from moving my son's room. Had to skip my planned 10+ mile long run. Hope it gets better fast!
4/11 - Woke up with continued back pain. Getting cranky.
4/12 - 4.4 miles. Chilly, but tolerable. Back was tender, but not painful.
4/13 - 5.43 miles. Went further than planned, because it was beautiful out.
4/14 - 3.48 mile evening run.
4/15 - 10.01 miles. UGLY. Hot, humid early afternoon run. Went out too fast. Had to take a short walk break in the middle.
4/16 - Rest day.
4/17 - 5.19 miles. Cool, comfortable.
4/18 - 4.72 miles.
4/19 - 3.98 miles while my daughter had soccer practice
4/20 - Unplanned rest day.
4/21 - 4.8 miles on treadmill (Trek class)
4/22 - 4.0 speedy miles on indoor track, then weights/abs
4/23 - 11.05 miles long run
4/24 - Rest day.
4/25 - 3.5 miles. Small taper leading up to HM on Saturday.
4/26 - 4 miles.
4/27 - Unplanned rest day / life day.
4/28 - 4.5 miles on treadmill (Trek class) - reduced my regular pace and did "hills" at lower incline than instructed

@07KatieP13 Sounds like you have good plan/attitude with that hill climb goal. 3 miles shy of your goal is still good, putting on the mileage!
@karllundy Keep it up! sometimes just plowing through and getting it done is what ya gotta do, and you're doing it!0 -
For everyone that's injured. Or will be injured.
http://www.runnersworld.com/psychology/5-steps-for-coping-with-the-psychological-effects-of-injuries
I'm at 98/130 for the month- so sad. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to get 2 miles before the end of the month.
My foot still hurts. No where near passing a hop test. I'm terribly concerned that I have a stress fracture. And of course, timed so close to surgery I'll be forced to take 6 months off of running. I could skip surgery.... And ignore the foot that won't let me run... But I can't figure out how to make that work.
Guess I'll go read the article I posted a link to... Think of me on your runs.0 -

@instantmartian - I would try and change corrals too. They will probably work with you.
@07KatieP13 - Hills are hard! It took me a while to make it to the top of the challenging hills running the whole way when I first committed to tackling hilly routes. As I explored further out and had routes with more than one challenging hill it was not too unusual to find myself a bit exhausted on the last one and walking a bit. But it is the best training you can do. Keep at it!
@Elise4270 - You need to lock your foot up in a cage or something to keep you from running!1 -
The leg is feeling much better--no limp or pain when walking, and only mild discomfort when putting pressure on the outside of my lower leg. I'm confident I'll be able to get back out there next week.
In other news, my sister has conned me into registering for my 2nd full marathon. It will be November 12th, on South Padre Island. I'm still planning on doing the Jenks Half on the 5th, but will take it easy rather than actually racing it.
Plenty of time to get myself pulled back together and ready to run another full--hopefully better than last time!4 -

Like a parking boot!!
Seriously, I feel so bad for people here when they are injured and can't run. Non-runners do not get it!
@ceciliaslater - Glad your leg is feeling better!
@PoppetsMaster - Welcome back!
@MNLittleFinn - Been considering Glycerins myself. I love Ghosts though.
@Ron_Dco - Sorry for the bad news on blood sugar.
@_nikkiwolf_ - I hate when shorts do that!! When mine wear out, the liner tends to slide where it isn't supposed to as well...very uncomfortable! Maybe an excuse to buy new gear?2 -

A slow 3 miles this gloomy morning to test out how my knee is doing. The good news is that the knee pain was gone! Except my hamstring was hurting a little the whole time, and it felt like all the muscles in my right leg were sore and working extra hard. I’m planning to see how things feel the rest of the day, and then reassess tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll be up for another short run!
Thank you everyone for your well-wishes! Seems like I am on the mend

Today is our high school track fundraiser - we have an Elementary School Track and Field meet for kids in our local feeder schools. I'll be spending the afternoon with 300 3rd to 5th graders who will be running the normal races and doing long jump and softball throw. It's like herding cats! Skip will be the reporter on the scene . Her and a friend from journalism will be there doing a story and interviewing kids and parents, it's her first video story. The Coach didn't want her there at all since tomorrow is sectionals but she had already pitched this story with her teacher.2 -
@MNLittleFinn - Been considering Glycerins myself. I love Ghosts though.0
-
Ghosts were a top option for me, but I could only find them in size 8, and I needed 7, so the Glycerins won. On the other hand, I also opted for the Glycerins because they were heavier, so when I run in my Pegasus, they feel even lighter for speed work and racing and such...0
