Weighing food

Ok, so I got a food scale and this may be a really silly question but do I weigh everything? For instance, I just had greek yogurt, should I have taken it our of it's container and weighed it? I scanned the bar code and it cme up so I didn't weigh it.

You can weigh it in the container, then weigh the empty container after you eat the yogurt and subtract that weight from the original weight.
I use larger containers of yogurt with multiple servings, so I weigh my yogurt into the bowl I'm going to eat it out of. You could do that, too.
Have you learned how to use the TARE button? That one feature makes weighing food SO MUCH EASIER!3 -
Some would say yes. I personally don't weigh the yogurt. I weigh most things, but pre-packaged items I usually don't, although I know they can be off by quite a bit. I guess if I was super strict with my logging or not losing when I thought I should be I would be more diligent and weigh every thing. Also if you're closer to goal and your logging needs to be a lot more exact then it would be more important to weigh EVERYTHING!1

Yep, that's what I do, weigh, eat, weigh again after.0 -
I weigh stuff like, meat, veggies, fruit, and crackers/chips and I'm losing weight. I imagine as I get closer to goal or plateau I'll need to be more diligent and log bread by grams instead of slices and such. In the mean time, I try not to obsess over every gram. I want this to be sustainable behavior change.2

No, I'm not familiar with that feature.0

The TARE button erases the weight of whatever is currently on the scale. So you can put your bowl on the scale, TARE out the weight of the bowl, then put in the yogurt, so you'll only see the weight of the yogurt. You can push TARE again while the bowl and the yogurt are on the scale, the scale resets to zero, and you can add berries (for instance) and see only the weight of the berries. Makes weighing things so much easier. Dinner plate - TARE - meat - TARE - veggies - TARE - rice. Get weights of each items without removing anything from the scale or creating more dishes to wash.0 -
Thanks for the info!0

For single serving yogurts, I weigh the empty container once. So now if I'm having something like Chobani 0%, I know that the empty container is around 11 grams, so a full yogurt weighing 161 grams has the exact 150 gram serving of yogurt in it. When I eat them now, I know how many grams to add if it weighs more than 161 grams. If it's less than 161 grams, which is rare, I just leave it in my diary as if I've eaten the full 150 grams.1

My scales have that also. You can place a bowl on the scale and then press the power button and it will zero out the scale. Makes it easier then to weigh the actual food.1

I use non digital scales and just weigh the bowl first then add my food, the difference is obviously the food weight.1

Individual yogurt cups are one of the few things I don't weigh, as they have always run at/under the weight given. But yes, you would weigh before eating and then after.1

If you're eating the whole thing, don't bother weighing and just go by what's on the label. Just make sure you're actually logging the whole thing and not just one serving!1

When I eat stuff in containers and I eat all of it and the calories on the container are given for the whole container - no I don't measure it. I also don't measure things for which calories are given by the item count - as in number of slices or sausages or stuff like this. I've measured a few in the beginning and when they were off ( if they were off) it would be just a few calories so not bothering any more.
ETA: In general the calories on a package have a margin of error and it is usually bigger than the error you could generate by not measuring the contents of a container or itemized stuff. At least for the brands I buy this has been the case.1 -
The only time I weigh prepackaged food is if I don't eat all of it.1

I don't usually bother with things like single serving items like tubs of yogurt
I'm happy that my goals are being met whilst doing that, if things aren't going well then that's one of the things that could be tightened up.1
