Hi group, I'm new here. I have a question about nuts, I would like to eat nuts more often but when I see how many calories it is, it stops me. 1/4 cup of nuts is about 190 calories... ouch! I would like to eat some everyday but I found it too high and I have to hold my self later during the day and cut on other foods. And I'm wondering for the sugar in fruits... If I eat fruits, and I exceed my sugar intake for the day because of the fruits I eat... Pretty sure it is not like added sugar but what is the impact of that sugar on weight loss. Please some light
Pretty motivated but a bit confused.

1. Consider getting a food scale.
I made my own 100 calorie snack baggies of almonds. 16.7 grams.
2. I do not count sugar from fruit. I limit added sugars from processed to 20 grams a day.
* A food scale makes this place rock. Cost ~$20. Try walmart, target, bbbeyond.1 -
I second the food scale. As for the sugars, they won't make you gain weight if you're still in a calorie deficit. I don't even track sugar, instead going for fiber.0

I eat nuts every day, but weigh them out to around 20g & include them in my calorie intake for the day. As for sugar it won't stop your weight loss if you keep track of the calories, but it's always good to keep track of sugar even with fruits because the body treats sugar as sugar from whatever source. I usually aim for 3 portions of fruit a day then the rest in veggies.1

I just completed my first Whole30 last week and ate lots of nuts and fruits...and lost 10 pounds. We have to get passed the idea that fat is bad for you, as long as you are eating healthy fat in moderation. And sugar in fruit isn't really something to get worried about. Just don't go nuts.1

Nuts are highly nutritious foods...they are also calorie bombs...one has nothing to do with the other. They are a good source of healthy fat and I like working them into my diet regularly.
Biologically, sugar is sugar and your body isn't going to register whether that sugar is coming from a piece of fruit, a vegetable, or whether it's added sugar. With that said, you obviously get additional, beneficial nutrition eating veggies and fruit...vitamins and minerals and fiber...whereas you're really not getting any of that with a soda or a cookie.
If you don't have a medical condition, sugar really shouldn't impact weight loss...weight loss comes from consuming less energy (calories) than you expend. As far as servings go, I generally stick to around two servings of fruit per day and emphasize vegetables (about 6 servings per day). You're going to get more overall micro-nutrition from veggies1 -
Fruit sugar and added sugar are the same substance. There is no need to track either unless you have a medical condition.0

Gotta love nuts and fruits!0

I eat nuts nearly every day. They are great snacks because they hold me over until the next meal, unlike some snacks that just make me want to snack more. Plus, they help me meet my protein goal. Fruits are good. I don't even track sugar... but you could try to limit your fruit to 2 servings per day and substitute veggies for the others.0

Nuts and fruits are great! Yes nuts are high calorie so you want to watch your portions carefully. I don't have nuts every day, but I do occasionally have trail mix (nuts, raisins, and a few M & Ms) as a pre-workout snack.
As for fruits, enjoy! I have lots of fruit. My morning smoothie contains half a banana and some frozen fruit (pineapple, mango, berries, peach), for lunch I have an apple or pear, and with dinner I have grapes, strawberries, or oranges. I love fruit and it hasn't affected my ability to lose weight (117 pounds down!). But note I'm eating the WHOLE FRUIT. I'm peeling the orange, not getting a can of oranges. I eat the skins on the apples and pears. I don't add any sugar or whipped cream to my berries. Don't buy canned fruit, or fruit that comes in those little plastic cups--they're often soaking in sugar water. Avoid pre-sliced if you can, as it's better to have fresh. Dried fruit can be okay, but it tends to have more sugar somehow (maybe the companies put preservatives and sugar on it?) so limit that. Frozen fruit and fresh fruit is the way to go.0 -
Second getting a food scale.
Do you have a medical condition that requires you to monitor sugar intake? If not, I would suggest tracking fiber instead. There is nothing wrong with fruit or nuts, as long as they fit into your calorie goal.0 -
Use a food scale to weigh nuts. Some nuts are more calorie dense than others. Consider being strategic about which ones you keep in your rotation.
You will find that you can fit nuts into your daily plan.0 -
Fruit and nuts are both natural so enjoy them0
