Baby Weight!

I had a baby boy in August 2015. I left the hospital at roughly 165 but the holidays creeped in and I packed on some weight. I am now 174 and have been watching what I eat and exercising. I have never had to lose more than 10-12 lbs before so I am finding it very hard and discouraging. My goal weight is 140 and to fit in my pre-pregnancy clothes again. I'd welcome any tips or advise. Thanks for reading!

Find your TDEE and stay below that. If you eat less then you burn, you will lose weight. Log everything BLT (bite, lick, taste) using this app. Are you nursing? Make sure to get enough nutrients daily to support milk production.

    Good luck!

I was in your EXACT position, except my baby was born Feb 2015.

Are you still nursing? If not, find the minimum calories your body needs and then try to burn 1000 calories a day more than you eat, that'll take off 2 pounds a week.

I found long walks with the baby to be really helpful, I also tried to remember that this is real life from now on, not a diet to lose the weight and then fo back to normal or else you set yourself up to do it all over again.

My youngest was born in August 2015 too :). At this point even if you are nursing, your baby has likely started and is pretty well established on solids; around the seven month mark I had to adjust my intake to account for reduced calorie burn from lactation (I log 300 cal burned per day from breastfeeding, rather then the 500 I was previously loging and that helped with the last few lbs). Enter your stats into MFP and log everything you eat, weigh and measure (if you find you need to, I never did), shoot for a 1 lb per week loss (nursing makes you extra hungry and I find anything more aggressive than that is unsustainable while nursing), your little one is at an age where he might enjoy daily walks in the stroller (good for mom too!), focus on nutrient dense foods and getting enough water. I know it's not easy if baby isn't sleeping through the night yet, but try to get adequate sleep - I know when I'm overtired I feel hungrier than usual. And be patient. It will happen, even if the weight loss isn't as fast as you'd like.

What does TDEE mean? I only nursed for about 3 weeks  Luckily the baby is a great sleeper.
