How many calories are burned during a one hour session?

    I think this would vary a lot. I've done it in a quiet harbor and didn't think it was much of a workout, whereas in open ocean, I'm sure it'd be a lot more.

    It depends on how fast and hard you paddle.

    Impossible to say. Currents and wind have a huge impact on your effort. I think the best you can hope for is to wear some type of activity tracker.

    How about just paddle for the joy of it and not worrying about tracking it?

    It's impossible to tell unless you wear a heart rate monitor and even that will have some level of inaccuracy. This is why I don't track calories expended. I factor in my exercise to calorie goals so it's just something I don't have to worry about. But for real I can't wait to try paddle boarding. I'm hoping to move back up to Wisconsin this summer and be closer to my family. Then I can rent some paddle boards and try it out before I decide to buy one. My family has kayaks, a canoe, etc so a paddle board would be a wonderful addition!
