Pregnant

Hey guys. I'm 18 weeks pregnant and overweight. My doctor said she only wanted me to gain 10-15 lbs while during the whole pregnancy. My last two pregnancies I gained a ton. Like 40-50lbs. I really don't want to do that again and I've already gained like 15 lbs so I am tracking my food on mfp. Not sure how many calories I'm supposed to eat but I basically just set it to lose .5 a week. But that gives me like 2300 cals. That seems like a lot. Anyone tracked while pregnant. Any tips? I am in no way dieting as I know that's not healthy when pregnant. I just don't want to give birth and be 40lbs heavier than when I started.

I'm 9.5 weeks pregnant and have been losing 1/2-1 lb a week. I keep my calories around 1400-1700 and am really trying to keep it up! I lost 40 lbs before becoming pregnant so I'm trying to stay healthy. Just keep lots of little healthy snacks around for when you get the munchies and log everything! It's amazing what you don't notice your putting into your body. Don't stress though. You're growing a human and it takes a lot of energy and work!0

Speak with your doctor about referring you to a dietician. Unless they've approved of a plan for you to lose during pregnancy, you shouldn't be eating below maintenance at the very least.1

Does mfp suggest 1400-1700 cals? I don't get why they give me so many. I put lightly active as my activity. I'm 5ft 7 and considered obese already. As much as I hate that word it's true. I wore a size 14 before pregnancy but I guess that's obese.0 -

I would set it to maintain but that gives me like 2600 cals or something. That's a lot! I could see a dietitian. It's covered. I just don't want someone on my case. I already have my doctor making me feel bad. Ya know?0 -

If you eat to maintain your current weight, then you sill begin to trade weight with the baby somewhere along the way. I was on an 1800 calorie/day diet from week 6 on with my last one because I had gestational diabetes with the one before that. I am also 5'7" and I was slightly overweight when I got pregnant. Eat at maintenance, worry about losing later.

They aren't there to make you feel bad - it's their job to make you feel BETTER You have another little life to look after now, you don't want to accidentally do anything to endanger them (eating too much or too little.) Be safe, see the dietician, especially if it's covered! They'll be able to give you more specific (and accurate!) advice than anyone on MFP.1 -

Tell the dietician/nutritionist that first thing! "Yeah, I was nervous to come see you because I'm afraid it'll just feel like having someone on my back, but I really want to do the right thing for my baby!"
I'm not a parent, but I imagine this is just one of many things you do for your children even though it's hard for you!1 -

See the dietician -- this is about the health of your child, not your feelings. They shouldn't be on your case, but on your side. Going to a dietician is the responsible thing to do here it'll put your mind at rest when you're eating with knowledge instead of uncertainty, and if the dietician is rude you should tell them so! Let them be bothered not you.

Set MFP to maintain. ..its pretty hard not to gain while pregnant so dont set it to gain mode Also remember you are growing a person inside of you so eat good. With my pregnancy I had to eat tons of Iron (your doctor will tell you if it is low). So I ate super healthy stuff. Dont try to limit calories too much, pregnancy is not a time to be losing wieght. Staying active helps big time even if its just walking. ..do it0

I'm pretty confused about what the medical professionals actually think, as I was very overweight when I got pregnant (240lbs). At 12 weeks pregnant, I developed gallstones, which cause crippling attacks after eating. I'm now 28 weeks pregnant and have lost 30lbs, but doctors and midwife are all saying "a crash diet won't do you any harm and the baby will be fine".
Personally, I think that's terrible advice, but they're determinedly unconcerned about the weight loss, and I've seen about 4 different docs...0 -
Whatever your normal intake to maintain would be + 300 is all that is needed for a healthy pregnancy. 2300, depending on how active you are, seems normal to me. Just be sure to keep your activity high0
