Shocked by my body fat % :-(

Had my first session with a personal trainer in years. I definitely learned a lot, and worked out WAY harder than my usual at-home barbell lifting and bike riding. And... I will need to work out harder after finding my body fat had gone up from 18% a couple years ago to 26% today. Here is photo proof.

Weight: 175lbs
Height 5'6"

Why are you shocked if you have the pictures to go with the change? Use this as motivation to work hard AND smart!

Curls, chest flies, shoulder lifts and chest presses. The trainer I saw recommended I try to do ones that involve more muscles.

Because I had been lifting weights I thought some of the weight I was gaining was muscle but it wasn't. Just pounds and pounds of blubber!

Keep the pictures as motivation... I take pictures of myself every month and have for 16 months. I have my first pic feb 2015, then I think November 2015, then may 2016 in my profile, but I have lots on my computer. It's one of my biggest measures of success! In January 2015 I was 26.4%, my last measure at the beginning of this May was 12.4%.

Having a Personal Trainer help now and then is a good thing too, I used to see one every 6 weeks or so. I need to get back in the habit of doing that.

Anyway with a good diet plan you will get in shape fast, you already know what to do for a good workout. Look forward to seeing your progress!

Yes! Compounds lifts for the win!! (Or... for the loss, since we're talking about body fat. Lol). Also, make sure you're incorporating lifts for your entire body. Looks like you were focusing mainly on upper, anterior muscle groups (chest, shoulders, biceps...) Good luck! With consistency, you can do it! :)

I know it's a harsh reality. When you train and eat in a surplus, the surplus should be on the smaller side and the training should involve progressive overload and compound lifts.
