eat the foods you love and enjoy; and make it fit into your calories.

It took me a few days of eating nothing but junk (and fitting my calories) to realize i was way too hungry and that unless i started replacing some of these things with low calorie foods i'd be starving all day.

    So, i say-
eat the donuts, fries, pizza, snickers, tacos, etc. and stick to your calories.

You'll find out really quickly (by hunger) which is important to you and which is not. You'll notice that if you have x food now you can't have x food later.

I slowly transitioned to fruits and veggies and low calorie foods with a snickers here and there or a couple of slices of pizza here and there.

So now i eat a combination of "healthy" foods and "junk" foods.

I'd second the advice given by @rainbowbow. When I started, I logged everything I was eating normally. Seeing the statistics gave me the impetus to make changes and helped me find out where those changes needed to happen. Try not to think of foods as good or bad; for weight loss the only important thing is the amount of calories. In time, you can tweak the foods you're eating to hit nutrition goals.

It might seem counter-intuitive, but this can be fantastic advice for some people. This is a great way to figure out how to balance things.

There really is no bad food when you're just trying to lose weight through a caloric deficit. You have to learn that it's OK to have certain things, within reason, as long as you work them into your plan. The major amount of your calories, protein and fats should come from fruits, vegetables and animal or plan proteins but you can always leave a little room for something that you crave. Also, what some people consider healthy foods don't have to taste like cardboard. There's plenty of recipes out there that make eating like a fitness model seem like you're cheating.
