Diabetics on Insulin / Weight Loss

I would like to hear from other diabetics who are on Insulin who have been successful with weight loss and would love to hear what has worked best for you.

Does your endocrinologist or diabetes center have a dietician? It might be worth a co-pay.

The trick has been to get my pump basal setting correct so I don't have to eat extra to treat lows.

Not really eating low carb, but try to eat healthy carbs and balance them out with protein every day. This helps prevent lows. Don't treat lows with food. Use glucose pills. It's too easy to over eat when low. I also remove my pump when exercising, but if you are on shots try eating an apple with peanut butter before working out and don't bolus for it (or just take half or less if your sugars will spike severely) It takes some tweaking and effort, but being on insulin doesn't necessarily mean you can't lose weight.
