I've never been a veggie or fruit person...ever. I'm trying to lose baby weight now and I can't seem to find anything that I can eat for meals or snack on. Any tips?

Solution - start eating vegetables.18

I like to hide vegetables in soups and chilies. Start small by trying one new fruit and veggie each week and find something you enjoy.8
-
Could you learn to like vegetables and fruit? Or at least tolerate them a little. Maybe broker a peace treaty there?
Short of that, you could just eat a lot of meat, fish and dairy, I guess. Go keto.0 -
What don't you like about the veggies? If it were the veggies my mom served while I was growing get up, I would hate them too. Canned veggies. All the time. (Except for carrots, celery, potatoes, and onions). Canned veggies, except for corn, are disgusting. I thought I died and went to heaven when I discovered properly prepared frozen veggies! Is there ANY fruit you like at all??? And I thought everyone liked baby carrots and celery.4

It has been my experience that many people who think they hate veggies have never had them prepared well. Americans are typically not creative about veggie preparation.
You might be doing yourself a favor by giving them a second chance and trying some recipes.10 -
Honestly, suck it up! My husband said he didn't like cucumbers, cooked carrots, zuchinni, raw bell pepper, and many others. He just hadn't had them cooked well or with nice meals. Now he has and asks me to make roasted zucchini at least once per week! Same with our roommate who usually runs from veggies and prefers his greasy food truck burritos. Last night he ate about half of the zucchini I made.
You just need to abandon this "yuck I don't like it" mentality and try new things.13 -

I always thought I didn't like veggies either because my mother cooked canned veggies to mush for dinner. I always thought I was just a meat and potatoes girl because my mother's vegetables were horrible and bland.
But I realized there are way better ways to eat veggies. I actually like many of them raw instead of cooked. Also, I love steamed vegetables. Agree that mixing them into things like stews, chili, casseroles, stir fries, etc. can help. Do I love every vegetable? NO! But I found some that I like and stick with them. I'm also more open now of trying new ones prepared in different ways. A little sample never killed anyone, and I might stumble on something new that I like.
Same goes for fruit...keep trying different things - I love citrus and berries. Not a fan of pitted fruits or melons other than watermelon. I only like super sour apples like granny smith ones, and just can't eat apples if they are mealy and mushy. I only like bananas if they are firm and not mushy - figured out it was a texture thing, which may have been part of the problem with my mother's vegetables. Don't wholesale dismiss all fruit until you've tried everything out there. It may take a while to find some fruit that you do like, but once you do, stick with those.
Also, realize as you get older, your tastes will change, so don't give up. Something that you hated in your teens and twenties might be something you love when you get in your thirties and forties. Keep trying!4 -
Try some raw veggies with a low fat sour cream or yogurt based dip. Cook them with herbs and seasoning. Roasted veggies are delicious--carrots, sweet potatoes, squash. Try new foods and you'll be surprised how your tastebuds will end up changing! I can't imagine trying to lose weight without a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables in my fridge. Best wishes!2

What have you been eating all your life? Life with no fruits and veggies?
You just can't substitute other foods for fruits and veggies. They are what they are. So I would either leave off the fruits and veggies or learn to cook them and prepare them. Even learn how to hide them in certain meals like casseroles, sauces, crockpot meals, chills.
There are still things I hate and just don't eat them. I hate figs, dates, kale, spinich (except artichoke and spinach dip??), cucumbers and more! So I just don't eat them. But I still love a host of other things. Perhaps there are few out there you do like you just don;t know it yet!
If you want to like them but can't just leave them off. Hopefully you do not hate beans and berries too, otherwise chili is out. And mexican food without refried beans should be against the law! Strawberry short cake would just be called "short cake" and that does not sound right at all!1 -
Now you have a baby to nourish you really should give fruit and veg another try. Unless you want your baby to grow up with inadequate nutrition and a loathing of healthy food.
Maybe start with veggies and dip, veggies in pasta sauces. Fruit is much easier to eat really.
I hate some veg, but there are so many to choose from it is easy to avoid the few that make me gag. Carrots are disgusting. Ha!1 -
"Stealth Health" by Evelyn Tribole has a lot of tips for "hiding" veggies and fruits in your recipes. (this has no relationship to the Montel Williams website of the same name)

Veggies + olive oil + salt and pepper + oven = absolute heaven.
It blows my mind that people live their lives without loving fruits and vegetables . I eat both every single day.
300g fresh local asparagus, with 2 tsp olive oil and salt and pepper, baked at 400*F for 25 minutes is our new go-to.
One thing I love that is less health conscious is diced potatoes, brussels sprouts, carrots, onions, broccoli - smothered in olive oil and slow baked until everything is tender and golden. My boyfriend never knew he liked brussels sprouts until he tries them baked.3 -
Its all trial and error really Autumn as many have said before most 'hate' comes from not preparing the veg and fruit correctly. Also try new things as and when you can, maybe settle for adding a new item into a recipe first?
I have never been one to eat veg, fruit however I would try anything. Now I am learning to appreciate veg. Yes some I try are awful and I vow never to eat them again but some things have surprised me. It seems like my palette has changed, like mushrooms, tomatoes and rocket. I still have my favourites that I will grab first (raw spinach) but I am trying to re educate myself.
As you baby grows and starts to wean maybe its something you can do together?1 -
Saying you hate fruit and veggies just doesn't make sense to me.
On par with saying you don't like seafood.
There are countless flavours, textures, smells, colours in the fruit and veggie group.
Try different things, cooked in different ways, different sauces or dips.
Me, I hate watermelon, I don't like the texture, same reason I dislike pavlova, but watermelon has next to no similarity to a banana.1 -
i must admit i also have a love/hate relationship with veggies - i'd never make a good vegetarian! - but put them in a stirfry all covered in sauce or eat them on a roast dinner all covered in mint sauce ... and they're fine. hubby also grounds up frozen mixed veg and hides them in a spag bol..... nothing saying you cant disguise the taste :-)

I like a Sicilian caponata with fennel (Sicilian version of ratatouille); it's great at room temperature or cold, so I'll make a pot and take some to work with me every day. The recipe I use is similar to this one:

Whatever you already like to eat, just less of it than you were eating before.6 -

This.
You don't put any context around your vegetable and fruit hate so I can't help you there. Is it a texture thing? Are there some you like better than others? You can still lose weight on a McDonald's and Twinkies diet; just watch your portions.
To get what you have been missing from your vegetables and fruit, take a pregnancy multivitamin daily. It wouldn't hurt to take some benefibre in your tea either.0 -
I've never been a veggies person either but, you know what? I'm an adult i know it's good for me so I have started eating them more and more. You just need to find a way to spice them up. Like i had some lima beans i threw salsa verde on the other day. Pretty good. I also put diced jalapenos on my baked potatoes and dip my brussel sprouts in habanero sauce. Melt some cheese on them or something. But, it's really not that bad.5

i love them but can get sick of them easily and my BF is very picky and doenst want to eat then so ive found ways to use them by grinding them up and putting them in stuff. it depends on what recipies and foods you like.
I use a food processor and grind up onions garlic mushrooms cellery zuccini egg plant and squash and cook it in spagetti sause with meat, it comes out wonderfuly thick and flavorful. can do an awesome lazanna this way. ground veg for meatloafs and burgers are great too. also if you like salads like tuna or chicken salad potato annd macaroni, I add ground carrots cellery bell peppers onions. try adding ground veg to sauses too. msuhroom and onion gravey, for a white sause try onions and califlour. if you like mashed potatos making them with some cook califlower mashed into it, you hardly notice it. my BF HATES califlower and even he was ok with that. avacados can be subbstitued for a fat in some recipies also.
salsas are great, you can grind up many varieties of fresh veg, I like doing one with tomatos ,onions garlic, multipule types of peppers, celery , some herbs like cilantro, parsely, mabee some corn and olives. you can make fruit salsas too.
cakes and breads are great too with ground veg, zuccinni and carrot breads and cakes. see my post on the mug cakes for chocolate banana cake. I was also using a juicer , make a juice and then use the pulp in the cakes , you can bake ground fruit into pancakes also. applesause is a good substitue for sugar in some baking. often on boxes of cake mix you will see it in the alternative prep directions.
use lots of herbs, and greens like herbs. I often add a bit of spinich and kale is good along with parsely in many dishes, soups and caseroles, stuffings, spinach and kale can be very versitile like that. I make an omlete with spinach shallots galic mushroms and ham that is very flavorful.
hope this gives you food for thought2 -
Keep trying with the vegetables. It can take 15-50 separate attempts to become accustomed to a new food. A long and tedious process but worth it in the end!
Roasting gives a much sweeter flavor and changes the texture.
Find sauces you like to cover up some of the taste...gravy, BBQ sauce, ranch, etc.
Puree them into spaghetti sauce.
Making thin matchstick slices helps me get certain raw vegetables down easier though I usually prefer cooked.
For fruits, putting them in a smoothie with another stronger taste that you like helps (maybe chocolate?) Cooking things like apples and pears makes them sweeter and easier to get down.
In the end, you just have to commit to it and do it. You will not die (allergies excepted), and if you feel like you will, some therapy might help you get over the mental block. There are some meals I put 100g of vegetables on the plate and just cram them in to get it over with so I can get to the good stuff. Mature, no, but I think it's better than not eating them at all. It gets a bit easier if you internalize the importance of veg/fruit and do not allow yourself any excuses. Tastes can (slowly) change! Over time, I've moved many vegetables to the tolerable level for me, which I view as a huge success. You have the chance to provide a great start for your daughter, now is the time to start eating fruit and veg!1 -
What veggies have you tried, and how were they prepared? My husband hated veggies until I started cooking for him, but his parents used a lot of canned veggies, or served them very plain (no salt and pepper or butter), so he always thought he hated veggies . Honestly I'm sure there are some things that you won't like no matter how they are prepared, but what have you tried? You want to set a good example for your child - seeing parents willing to try new things is important to encourage kids to be willing to try new foods.
That said, you may never be a fruit or veggie lover. That's okay too, there are plenty of nutrient dense non-veggie foods to be had (meat, eggs, fish, dairy, etc). I would encourage you to try some different veggies tho, and experiment with the preparation- that can make all the difference (boiled Brussels sprouts? Meh. Brussels sprouts browned in bacon drippings? Yowza. Steamed asparagus? Not bad. Roasted asparagus? Heaven on earth.)2 -
As someone else said--eat what you have been eating, just less of it.
With respect to the veggies--I'm assuming your profile picture is recent? You have a little one who is start going to try new foods soon... You should try to expand your palate by introducing new foods into your life kind of in the same way. I'm not saying to eat baby food, but if your baby is starting green beans, then introduce green beans into your diet as well. Eventually you should find something that isn't objectionable to you.2 -

Weight loss is about calories not type of food. So eat what you like, log it and stick to your calorie goal just like everyone else. If you post what your calorie goal is then people can give you ideas of foods that will fit that goal.
Nutrition is about type of food. Vegetables and fruits provide important nutrients as well as fiber. Suck it up and eat some for your health. The variety of vegetables and fruits is enormous. What have you tried? What bothers you? Flavor, texture?
Try them in different forms. Roasted or grilled, batter dipped, raw, in soups, stews, stir fries, on pizza, sandwiches, tacos. Pureed or chopped and added to sauces, smoothies, or ground meat for meatballs or meatloaf.1 -
If you completely hate veggies you can eat veggies, nothing stopping you.0
-
I still don't eat my veggies and I'm losing weight. I'm also probably losing out on important vitamins and such but eating vegetables isn't necessary to lose weight.0

Do you use Pinterest? If not,you should start because there are literally millions of recipes on there. Find creative ways to cook your vegetables. My favorites include: Creamed Kale, Kale Chips, Carrot Chips, Zucchini Chips (notice the theme?), Sauteed Peppers and Onions, Sauteed Onions, Sauteed Shallots, Caprese Salad with balsamic vinegar, Roasted Garlic added to meals....
Also my favorite salad ever because it's just so incredibly delicious: Arugula, Pear, Dried Cranberries, Goat Cheese, Candied Walnuts (omittable), Red Onion & Balsamic Reduction... literally takes 10 minutes to prepare, will stay for a few days and is so yummy.
Start experimenting with different ideas and new recipes - you won't regret it. As far as fruits are concerned there are definitely creative recipes for those too, like Banana Pancakes, Fruit Salad, etc... the more you eat that stuff, the more you will like it. Feel free to friend me if you need more ideas2 -
My husband dislikes most veggies, this stems from his mother and her dislike.
However in the decade+ I've been with him he And I have found he doesn't hate them all equally.
He may not like salad, raw tomatoes and sweet potato
But will eat corn , cabbage, fine beans
Mushrooms.
He will eat tomato based sauces into which I grate zucchini and carrots so they disappear.
Meatballs or meatloaf I add in grated veggies.
Peppers and onions in fajitas
Roast dinners he likes them witha squeeze of lemon.
Curried sauces are great at hiding veg flavour.
Fruits in baked goods like pies or crumbles just go easy on the sugar
If I make crepes , banana and a smear of Nutella is his favourite.2 -
I roast or saute allll my veggies, whoever said above olive oil+veg+salt+oven is sooo right.
I overdo it on dips when I eat raw veggies so I plan it into my day. Love me Marie's ranch dip and carrots (the carrots are actually a vehicle for the ranch).0
