Okay...I don't quite get this. I'm looking at what I'm eating today as far as calories/protein/carbs etc. I'm on a higher protein diet to burn fat. So I don't really care about being negative in protein, I get about 130g-140g a day. Several nutritionists stated I should have 1g per pound, but I don't buy it.

So currently here are my totals I can eat today:

Calories 2,216
Carbs 304
Fat 74
Protein 83
Sodium 2500
Sugar 45

I'm eating fairly healthy, I do enjoy my fruits, so I know there is sugar there, but I'm at 44g of sugar and haven't eaten dinner or another snack yet....not to mention my "recovery" drink after my workouts is chocolate milk due to the high carb/protein ratio and they have about 24g of sugar in them. So 17 is from ONE Orange, 11 is from 1 Cup of oatmeal (peaches n cream), 13 from my zuccini/chicken/whole wheat pasta lunch.

I guess I just don't get it. I LOVE fruit, but I don't "crave" it...I don't have any cravings at all really. But it seems that even eat 3 pieces of fruit in one day would send me over the edge in sugars.

Ps - I've been over on Sugar from day 1 too and so far as weight loss goes it hasn't hindered me. BUT Doc does say my Tri/s are highish and I should try to get em down - so I'm trying but it's mighty hard to do - well for me anyway. I have lowered compared to what I once avg but still rarely if ever get under the MFP recommended quota.
  • my sugar is always over , i love fruit and fruit jucie ... like if i dont have it for the day i crave it and get really grumpy , its not even bad sugar its fruit hope it isnt a bad thing ,, fruit is good for u so cant be all bad

if you eat your fruit and don't drink it it has less of a rush of blood sugar response on your body due to the fiber and processing yor body has to do to convert it to what it needs.

Also some fruits are lower GI than others and will spike your blood sugar less...like berries vs watermelon

I haven't had a problem with my sugar numbers since I cut out all grains. I focus on quality meats and fats, lots of veggies, low-glycemic fruits such as berries and apples and a bit of full-fat yogurt and cheese. I never seem to take in too much sugar eating this way and I feel full and satisfied more than ever before!

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

I'm not going to worry too much about the sugars I guess as long as I don't go crazy with them. I eat veggies, and fruit, I also eat alot of grains, it's all pretty balanced. I do get alot more protein in me because I'm shedding some fat. Once I get close to where I want to be I'll slow down on the protein and balance it out some more.

I just know I eat Clif Bars after a workout sometimes, as a post-workout "meal" if I don't have any Chocolate Milk or Recovery type Drink. And that has 22g of sugar in it...of course its all oats/nuts/berries. LOL.
