Heart Rate issues???

Has anyone else suffered not being able to get your HR up to your Fat Burning zone? The last 3 days I have been fighting to get into my heart rate zone and have had very little luck at keeping my HR in the zone or keeping my HR up at all.

On Sunday I did a hour of cardio with no issues at all and then the last 3 days I fought tooth and nail to get my hr to 143-144 and keep it there. Also after yesterdays cardio session I notice how rapidly my HR dropped during my weight training exercises, both my trainer and I are baffled as to what might be causing it.

Has anyone else ever had this issue or had it and figure out what the problem was?

I would say increase your intensity. Mine usually goes over it and I try to get it back in that zone :P

Test your resting heart rate perhaps? Maybe this needs updating if you've been working out a lot. Perhaps your oxygen intake has improved therefore the numbers may not be correct. Double check your settings again.

if it's dropping fast that's supposed to be good.

If i was having the issue, i would take a day off.

I had exactly this issue until I found out I had asthma and got it treated. I could never physically work out hard enough to get my heart rate up high enough.

You've lost weight, so your heart would be in better condition than when you started ?

Is this the number on the HRM, or are you verifying it by measuring your own heart rate.
Did your heart rate always do this?

Yeah it drops fast, my trainer says that is great but how it could just go on like a switch from a semi steady HR to a quick dropping one, for instance I could drop 50bpm in 45 seconds post a lift.

Great suggestion! Another thing to consider is to see if anyone else has an HRM that you could borrow... There was a guy at the gym the other day talking about that... He was having the same types of trouble that yours was... turns out his pads were not getting a good read from his body - in his case, he tightened the strap and also added "more" water to them, but he was going to replace it based on the trouble he was having...

Good Idea...i dont really wet them normally anymore considering it's the newer style Polar strap that I so far had little issues with and I could tighten up the strap and adjust settings too.

That may be it...I think the newer style Polar HRM straps have to be wet in order to get a proper read. What style do you have? If you don't have the owners manual, you can go to the Polar website for more info on your particular model

Its the one with the intergrated sensor into the strap, not the one where oyu can still take the sensor off it!
