Want to do a sub 2 hour Half Marathon - Rock and Roll SUJA 1/2 Marathon in San Diego

I am signed up for the Rock and Roll SUJA 1/2 Marathon in San Diego come June 5th. Back in November I ran a 5k at 29:11 and last Sunday I ran a 10k in 57:21 - Granted those times are great for a 52 year old man that used to smoke 3 packs a day and weighed 267 pounds. It is a miracle I am alive. That said, sub 2 hours seems daunting. More speed work and long runs. Join me in SD.

Inspiring, great story! I hope you do very well indeed. Sub 2 may well be a challenge but nothing ventured, nothing gained!0

San Diego HM is a frickin' awesome race. I ran it last year and I plan to do the full in the future.
You will get faster as you run more. If you try to get faster by running faster, you will end up injured. You cannot rush this process. Your body needs time to adjust and get stronger. Take it slow and keep building up miles and you will get there - maybe not this June but in time.
Good luck. Maybe I'll see you in San Diego next year.0 -

You are in luck! The new course this year is pretty much all downhill after mi 5! Great race!0

Cool - Thanks for the information . I plan to drive down to San Diego and walk the course sometime this month to orient my self to the layout.0

Not what I would call a failure. Was this your first? What was your training schedule?
I'm signed up for my first half in September. Have two 5Ks done (29:09 and 28:28) training runs of 4 miles (40 minutes) and five miles (51 minutes) My longest training run so far has been 7.84 miles 1 hour 29 minutes. Any training tips are appreciated.

Woohoo indeed! And you certainly didn't fail. That's awesome. I'm building back up to half-marathon distance. Not run one since late 2011, but hoping to be ready early next year. I think a lot of it is mind over matter, but I'm sure I'll get there.
ETA: And you'd beat me. My PB is 2:26:32.0 -

Congratulations! Nothing about this is a fail. I ran my first HM in about the same time. At mile 11 there was a kid holding a sign that said "you can do it, keep it up!" and I started crying. So embarrassing, haha.1

Yes this was my first - Actually - Just have fun - My wife was at the finish line and I started to cry when I saw her it brought home what it is all about. Enjoy. -0 -

So you didn't hit your time target. That's not a failure, you got a credible "middle pack" time on your first HM.
That looks like success to me.
