Can I get your views on this. Is it healthy to fry salmon on pan with some olive oil or is that bad.

because it's frying essentially and frying isn't healthy. I heard with olive oil it's ok, others say it's not.

Count the calories for the oil and don't drown the salmon in it, that's all....

As long as the oil you're using fits into your calories for the day use it. We all need some fat in our diet and olive oil is a good one.

I think what people mean by frying being unhealthy is actually deep frying food, but I've honestly never seen any proof that deep frying is bad. I personally stay away from it because it makes me feel awful.

I would call salmon in olive oil healthy if you're just using enough oil to keep it from sticking.

    (I'm not a food expert)

Healthy or unhealthy shouldn't be determined by just one meal - log everything including the oil and factor it into your day/week. Make it fit, and it's fine.

You don't get much healthier than salmon in olive oil.

Don't regularly deep fry twinkies in lard and you'll be fine.

All of this. Weigh your salmon, weigh your oil, and log both. If it fits, you're good!

When I cook with olive oil it seems like more is left in the pan than is actually on the food. How do you account for that when weighing?

It is not unhealthy. It adds some calories and fat. Your body needs fat to function. It can help with satiety as well. If you account for the calories then cooking with oil is not unhealthy. You should probably only add a tablespoon or two of oil. You could try using cooking spray to cut down on the amount you add.

When I cook any type of meat I rub the oil onto the meat, rather than pour it into the pan.

If you want to get the calories back into your diary you could weigh what's left in the pan. Problem is there are are also juices there.

I've never heard of rubbing the oil into meats. I'll give that a try, thanks. Seems like it might make the food taste better too.
