upping my calories..?

hey!
so I've been considering upping my calories but I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not and was hoping for some advice.

I'm 25, female, 5,3", started at 204lbs and am currently at 193, aiming for around 160lbs.

I've been eating around 1200 calories a day, and I burn an average of 500 calories six times a week doing bother cardio and strength training.

I'm considering upping my calories a little to 1400, as I've been told now in strength training it would be sensible to eat a little more?

sorry to ramble on, or if I'm totally wrong. this is all new to me as previously I've lost weight by minimal calories and pure cardio, but this time I want the weight to stay off and to build muscle at the same time.

thaaaanks! :) xo

I would say to try it and see how it works. If you are using an MFP-generated calorie goal, you should be logging and eating back exercise calories, all or in part. It sounds like you are not doing that. Upping your goal to 1400 would handle that for you and then you could continue as you are now, not logging the exercise.

I have been using the same MFP generated goal as I did from last year when I lost 23lbs. I have been logging all my exercises and calories but I haven't been eating them back no.

I like logging my exercises as i find it helps me hold myself accountable. so should I up to 1400 and continue as I am now?

I'm also trying to get my head around macros etc. I'm getting really into the research and that behind it all and just want to know I'm going the right thing haha

I see. Yes up to 1400 and continue as you are now. I'm hoping that another poster who is closer to your height will come in to say what she has been losing on. @arditarose, aren't you 5'3" or 4"?

I'm 5'4" and lose at around 1400-1700 while doing cardio for 45 minutes 6 times a week and strength training 2-3 times a week. Now that I'm training for a marathon I'm losing at 1800-2000, but twice as much running

MFP gave me 1440 (lose 1/2lb per week). I've been doing a bodyweight program in addition to lifting weights and a little cardio. I usually end up just about 1380 before my post workout snack. So I only eat back 25-50% of my calorie burn.

I am 5'3" MFP set my calories at 1200 and I tried that for a while, but was NOT satisfied and my weight was coming off very slow. I upped my calories to 1500 in January and since then I have dropped 30lbs and am satisfied. There are days that I eat more depending on my activity level and there are days that I don't want to eat half of that. I would say up your calories and try it. Just be mindful of what calories you are eating. Eat healthy foods!!
