I'm on a weight gain journey.. I'm putting on the pounds but seems like most of it goes to my stomach! Looks like I'm pregnant and I hate it. I was thinking about buying a waist trainer but not sure if it works. Does anyone know anything about waist trainers and what are the best kind to get...thanks!

They don't work and can actually cause damage to internal organs by shoving them in to the wrong place.7

My friend is a body builder and wore waist trainers while she was training for competitions. She said it worked for her but at the same thing, she's a body builder so shes eating right and lifting (which is going to reduce belly fat regardless). She also wore hers all day even while she was sleeping.
I have a waist cincher that I purchased from amazon. It does oppress your stomach and help reduce water weight but it was way too uncomfortable for me to do high impact workouts in and prevented me from breathing correctly during reps.
If you are trying to gain weight and its all going your belly, I wonder what kind of food you are eating? If you are eating junk and a ton of bad carbs, its going to store in your stomach. If you want to gain, eat more protein but watch your sugar intake!3 -

The don't work. If you want a to reduce the impact of the stomach, small surplus and lifting. And I will also note that several of the members here have noted the stomach issues while on apetamin. So there might be a potential that some of your issues is caused by bloating.5 -
You know how when the tops of your socks are too tight and when you take them off you have those big dents that last for up to an hour? That's what a waist trainer does.8

It's a shame your friend gives credit to a clothing garment instead of all the hard work she put in to her training and eating habits.4 -

Your friend is wrong.
They literally do nothing and are a complete waste (pun intended) of money/time.8 -

this whole statement is just wrong..
if OP is gaining too much weight it is because her surplus is too large, or she started at too high of a body fat % to bulk, or a combination of bulk. IT has nothing to do with woo woo about waist trainers, bad carbs, or sugar....
oh, and carbs are more important than protein during a bulk ..

I have something similar to a waist trainer I wear as a back support on extended walks (when I could walk before recent knee injury). What I can tell you is that you will look thinner in the tummy wearing it because it makes you stand up straighter and is holding everything in for you. You may even look a little slimmer when you first take it off do to water loss. This is very temporary though and does nothing for weight long term.1

Thanks for the info everyone!!-1
