How I overcame my weightloss plateau

Hello all,

We all must have encountered this dreaded 'plateau' at one point during our weight-loss. I reached mine about two weeks ago: no matter how hard I exercised, my weight wouldn't drop at all. I couldn't understand why and it was extremely frustrating. I increased my workout instensity but that just left me feeling tired and overworked. My hypothesis was that I wasn't used to the bodyweight, so I decided to give my body some time to settle down - adjust, so to speak - to the new form/weight.

I had originally decided to take time off for a week, but because of the nature of my job, I was forced to take a second week off. I guess it was a boon, because it left me feeling extremely energised and ready to go again. I started working out yesterday and I feel as good as ever. I checked my weight again this morning and found that I had lost a pound in the last 3-4 days. It seems like maintaining my weight wasn't a problem! I ate as I normally would - minus the protein shakes, but also the occasional "junk" - and lost a few calories here and there from work. As of now, I'm the lightest I've been since a year-and-a-half ! It's looking pretty good so far!

I hope this helps!

  • Have you changed your workouts around? I met a plateau myself and i had to change up my workouts, and when i say that i mean just instead of doing legs on Friday i did them on Monday so forth and so on. I maintain my weight pretty good, but i have to cheat every now and again. Also taking time of is not a bad thing it gives your body time to recover COMPLETELY. keep at it and you will get your goal. i have lost 27LBS in 5 months working with this program... just remember cardio cardio cardio!

I have hit the dreaded Plateau too! I knew that it would eventually come!! I am over 2 weeks now of no movement on the scale and I have been staying in my calories and working out. Never cheating!! I tried changing up my exercise all week, but to no avail! I have one more week until I leave for vacation. So I guess if I do not lose anymore before that....I will re-focus when I get back. I plan to cheat big time on vacation. I am going to ENJOY every minute!!! Maybe that will kick me back into losing again when I get back?? I sure hope so. I have lost 40 pounds and have not seen these numbers on the scale in years! I am hoping to lose 30 more pounds!
