Hello friends,
I've been walking 1 to 2 times a day for 2-4 miles each time. I've done this for just about 3 weeks now, I've lost MAYBE 3 pounds! I'm 44, I knew it would be harder to lose now but didn't expect this.
Any help or suggestions?

Losing a pound per week is excellent. Keep up the good work!

Exercise is great; you must also control calories to experience weight loss.

I'm 46, yes it's harder as we age. I won't let anyone tell me otherwise as it is the truth! However I don't understand your post? You have lost 2/3lbs in 2 weeks, that is a great success. Is it because you have a lot to lose and you thought you'd lose a lot in first push? Also totally agree with all the others, weight loss is about calories in, calories out way more than exercise. Though exercising is great in so many other ways.

Thanks friends! I appreciate all of your responses! I should have been more clear that a few years back I did the same type of work out routine and calorie count,.I lost weight MUCH quicker which helped me stay on track.
I had surgery 2 years ago that put me into menopause, since then it hasn't been the same. :-( I feel like I have to try extra hard to lose just a pound. Is this normal?
I need to find some new recipes possibly.

    Thanks all!!

I just went back to review the OP. It doesn't say what your daily calories are. Can you let us know? That may help.

OP, I had surgery when I was 38 and am 57 now. I am watching my calories and my carbs (have pcos, am insulin resistant and low vit d). The only exercise I am doing right now is trying to increase my steps daily (I have a desk job). In 24 days I have lost about 9.5 lbs. Weight is about calorie deficit. I do intend to start back at the gym in a couple weeks (wanted to get the food portion set first).

This will alter your hormones, which can certainly make it more challenging. Congrats on the 3 lb loss! It is a great start. Again, depending on how much you have to lose, what your calorie goal is, and if your logging is accurate (food scale and correct entries from the database), these can also influence your weight loss. You could also consider seeing a registered dietician to help you look for any changes in your current eating habits which may better support your goals, considering the changes to your hormones.

You are doing fantastic! Congrats on the 3 lbs. That is awesome!
Now... patience and time... time and patience. I have lost 68 lbs so far but it has taken me close to 3 years.

1lb per week is a good rate for steady weight loss - it's myfitnesspal's default setting and is what most people who know about weight loss seem to recommend as a healthy speed to lose.

Last time around you may have lost more water weight, which made the loss seem faster. Honestly, you don't want it to be faster. Slow and steady wins the race, with minimal stress to your body and mind.

You say you've lost 3lbs so you have lost weight. You don't say that you are tracking your calories, which you need to do to ensure you're in a caloric deficit.

If you haven't changed previously maintenance level eating, burning an average of 500 extra calories with walking will translate to a pound a week lost. Sounds right!

I lose at 0.5lbs/week. How is 1lbs/week not losing any weight?

1 lb per week is a good loss BTW - I wouldn't class that as not a success.

Sorry I didn't add that, I am tracking everything I eat on MFP. :)

It's not that I'm not losing anything, I am losing it VERY slowly. A few years ago while doing the very same exercise routine, I lost double of what I am now, just frustrating!

Are you doing so with a digital food scale? We can't stress the importance of this enough!

Im losing very slowly too and weighing and logging everything and exercising. some of us just lose it slower than others and as we age it can be harder due to hormone issues as well.
