I'm jumping on this band wagon, 40-50 by Christmas sounds awesome! I've switched to clean eating and only eating when I'm hungry. And it's working! Imagine that!0

My goal is to be under 200 by New Year's, so technically I have 36 pounds to lose by Christmas. BUT I'm certainly not going to stop if I hit it early. I'd love to lose 50 more by then.1

This "naysayer" is an experienced Project Manager very familiar with people setting overly aggressive goals. I get paid to set realistic goals and to help others to do so as well. I have no investment in your goals, but seeing people setting themself up for failure makes me sad. If a goal isn't realistic, it's not a SMART goal.
Sure, if someone has 200 pounds to lose, losing 50 of them by Christmas is doable. But the OP (and others in this thread) will be at goal when they've lost 50 pounds, and it is simply not realistic (or healthy) to maintain a 1000 calorie a day deficit when you are that close to goal.1 -
I am going to aim for 30 by Christmas and if I lose more then YAY!2

@kshama2001 Thank you for your reminder of SMART goals. It is excellent advice. If you read through the various posts by clicking on the link, you will see that most people are setting reasonable goals, and many are including weight they have already lost so far this year, which is being encouraged. I don't believe the OP is posting any longer, but maybe you could try PM'ing her if you are concerned about her goal being overly aggressive. As far as naysayers, it wasn't meant to refer to the specific goal of losing 50lbs by Christmas, but I can understand why you may have interpreted it that way. Thank you for your post, which raised my awareness of how that may have been interpreted...by you, and probably by others.0

I'm hoping to hit 260 by my doctor's appointment in September. That will be over 40lbs loss since April, and I'll be 29lbs lighter than the last time I had a checkup. If I'm able to hit that (which is looking promising; as of this morning I've lost 27lbs), hitting the 50 mark by xmas should be a breeze! (And what luck! I always lose about 5lbs around the holidays. )1
