Hi all. Do you find that even if you're food choices are not so healthy if you stick to your calorie allowance you still lose weight?

Yes, energy balance is funny like that.1

Sometimes. Unless I eat a lot of sugar or salt, then I'll gain.1

I recently saw an article where a nutritionist ate nothing but snack food but limited his caloric intake and still lost weight.1

It's all a physics problem. Nothing more, nothing less. It's just up to the individual to figure out their parameters.2

Yep. You may be cranky because you're hungry because those calories didn't fill you up or you're lacking adequate nutrition but strictly in terms of weight loss - if you eat at a deficit you'll lose whether you're eating chocolate or vegetables.4

*facepalm* being healthy is not just about losing weight. Yes, you can lose weight eating nothing but snickers bars. But you would also be in the worst health of your life. Please try to get all your essential nutrients in from real food sources every day.3

Hi. I do eat healthy and take it seriously. I was more intrigued than anything.3 -
It sounds crazy, but yes, if you eat 1300 calories of ice cream a day you'll lose weight, but 3000 calories of broccoli a day and you'll gain weight. Goes against everything I thought I knew growing up as a fat teenager.
For those of you curious, 3000 calories of broccoli would be 18 3/4 pounds of the stuff.5 -

Thanks Chef. I was thinking the same2 -
Good news for me. I got so annoyed with this girl who tried to tell me counting calories was a bad idea and I just needed to cut things out of my diet. No, I'm nor going to deprive myself of.anything because I will crash and burn. Yes, I know I should eat nutrient rich foods and I do BECAUSE Ican eat more and feel fuller! But a hamburger isn't going to kill me if I can fit it in every once in a while or really, whenever I want!

For me, if I eat too much carb & salt, i'll retain a ton of water weight continuously even if I'm at a deficit. It's not just CICO for me because the scale won't go down if I get all my kcal intake from just carb. I try to eat less than 200g of carb a day and also eat most of my kcal before 2pm and generally have less than 600kcal for dinner. I try not to eat after 7pm but sometimes, time is against me, so latest by 8pm. For some, what & when they eat doesn't matter, to me, it makes a difference. You have to find what works for you.1
