The only way tea is going to help you lose weight is if you replace soda or any other calorie laden beverage with unsweetened (or artificially sweetened) tea. The exact same way your body would react if you replaced any caloric beverages with any other zero caloric beverage, like water. There are no magical properties. Sorry.1

You could just as easily replace regular soda with diet soda and get the same calorie reduction as replacing it with tea.
To the OP: Tea has no magical weight loss ability in and of itself. It's just tea. To lose weight, the only thing that actually works is to consume less calories than you burn in a day. How you achieve that is entirely up to you as far as what you choose to eat and drink to attain that deficit.0 -

I drank a lot of PG Tips with milk when I was losing weight.
I also drank a lot of PG Tips with milk when I was gaining weight.

I'm aware. I swapped my regular for diet about fifteen years ago. I wrote the example at nearly 3 am and didn't feel like listing each and every substitution available. I was merely giving a comparison example.

I drink them because I enjoy them. They are a non-caloric beverage, aside from that, nothing about them will cause weight loss.0 -
The caffeine might make you want to move around a bit more which would cause your calories out to be slightly higher. Probably a negligible amount though.0

The EGCG in green tea has an effect on reducing blood sugar. Drink it for it's benefits. It's good to drink before working out to burn more calories.
White/Oolong/Green/Pu-erh/Black tea all come from the same plant, which means they have kind of similar properties with different amounts. The difference is the way they were dried. Green tea has lots of antioxidants, too. Not to mention that Black tea is a great way to relief stress.
think of being a tea drinker. Tea has lots of benefits physically and mentally, along with herbal ones, too. ^^
What harm could they possibly cause? Just if you're taking any medications or you're ill you MUST ask your doctor first. Have fun!0 -

The only way tea can help you lose weight would be because drinking zero calorie tea in the place of eating calorie foods creates a calorie deficit.
There is no magic in tea, but some of it is pretty darned tasty!0 -

Tea does not make you burn more calories. It has caffeine in it, but any extra calorie burn would be so minimal that it does not even matter.
