My biggest problem with dieting is alcohol

I'm not an alcoholic, but I love to have a few drinks on the weekends. The struggle is real lol. I just want to partake like everyone else.

I can relate. Body by Coors Light. I started this in earnest a week ago and have cut my drinking in half. It's easy when I know how much time on the bike each beer equates to!9

White wine spritzer? Half the alcohol and still got the taste and the look.
Or try vodka, a shot in a long drink, you still partake.2 -
For me it's not just the alcohol, it's the food I eat at the same time. Eg last night I had a glass of red wine (not too bad in itself) and half a pack of tuc salted crackers. Aargh! When I stop drinking for a week or two (as I do regularly) I get double the result.2

You didn't specify what type of drinks you have. Beer has several low carb, low calorie choices - Budweiser Select 55, Michelob Ultra, Miller Genuine Draft 64 to name a few, I prefer Guinness and Sam Adams Nitro Coffee Stout, heavy thick beers but decently low in carbs/calories. Straight hard liquor doesn't have any carbs and not many calories/oz but those "empty" calories can add up quickly but 2 shots wouldn't hurt much at all. Mixed drinks can add a whopping amount of calories depending on the drink - I recommend you steer clear of those.

make lighter choices, or ask the bar tender to make a fancy-looking non-alcoholic drink for you. OR work it into your macros and enjoy...1

I'll be upfront, I'm a big drinker. On the weekends (not every) but it can be one or even none to.. umm... it's embarrassing lol. But anyways, I've still been having a drink here and there but just counting calories. My thing is vodka but I think the mixing is what kills it in the calorie department. Maybe you can put drinking on your cheat day?? lol.
There's a couple things I wont restrict myself on... actually one... alcohol. Just drink smarter thats all. If I was doing this sort of drinking everyday then we'd have an issue.
Or maybe just exercise more in the lead up to feel less guilty?? I'm a bad person to give advise yet here I am trying lol.5 -

I like my cider or Margaritas. The WORST things possible0 -

Shots of Tequila are 80ish calories each.3

My fave lower calorie drink at home is whipped cream vodka and diet cherry dr. pepper. Tastes like a cupcake! If I'm out with my hubs I usually get diet coke and captain morgan. It is pretty decent especially if you add lime. MGD 64 is pretty decent beer wise. Though, I like all the bourbon barrel ales/stouts that are 200 calories a pop. That's got to be an active day for me to enjoy one of those!0

Both of those drinks sound awesome!0 -
Yeah, I had to basically give it up for a while to lose weight (it's how I gained it in the first place). I'm really close to goal now and just a few drinks can wipe out my entire week's deficit. It sucks. And, none of those lower-calorie or lower-alcohol options work for me. What's the point if you don't get to drink what you want? (Although that whipped cream vodka/Dr. Pepper thing sounds really good so thanks a ton for yet one more thing I'll probably want to drink! LOL.)2

I had no problem losing weight while indulging in some adult beverages on the weekends...When I was losing I pretty much switched from beer to straight booze...or I would make these sparkling water vodka drinks with a splash of grapefruit or cranberry or whatever to give it a little flavor...but way less calories than the beer I drank.1
-
Yes. I'm begrudgingly drinking light beer these days, and while I hate myself for it, I'm losing weigh much easier. I could really use a growler of good beer right now . . .2

Sounds good!0 -
I had to switch to diet mixers because I can easily rack up 600 calories in whiskey each day, which is kind of absurd, given my calorie goal is 1800-1900 per day. Of course, drinking 600 calories in liquor is not the healthiest, either mentally or physically, so I've also tried to cut back to only drinking on the weekends; sometimes I have a hard time adhering to this, but set a second goal of only drinking ONE drink on a weeknight instead of, like, 4.
I also try not to have a lot of snack food in the house if I know I'm going to be drinking, because drunk me will DEMOLISH packs of oreos, bags of potato chips, etc, and I can end up with a 4,000 calorie day without blinking.
For me it just really boils down to mindfulness. Do I want to drink because I'm out with friends and being social and having fun, or do I want to drink because I'm bored or had a *kitten* day at work? Did I get in a sufficiently strenuous workout today to burn off the several hundred calories in booze?4 -

Yea, I'm trying just weekends too. And I completely understand about alcohol munchies, they are the worst. No guilt after eating until the morning after lol0 -
I with you on this. When I log my drinks, I can clearly see why I shouldn't be doing it. But dang it, I like it.2
-
I keep my calories low during the week so that I can eat and drink whatever I want on the weekends.0

Good idea!0 -
Im not gonna lie, I LOVE a good drinking session.
I have cut down how often II drink alot, and tonight is the first time Im gonna have a drink since my brothers wedding 2weeks ago, I prob wont drink again for a couple of weeks.
when Im planning to have a drink/know there is something coming up that I will be having a few (a few? a few jugs lol) I tend to try and be extra good for the 2 weeks leading up to it, try and stay under calories goal by say 150-200 cals a day and "save them" for the day I will be drinking.
I still log everything even if it takes me over fr that day, like Iv already measured out my strawberry pimms for later and logged it, just need to do the diet lemmonade now.....I will be over by around 200 calories but Im not gonna stress it, Iv got some of the weks calories "spares" so its not gonna make a massive dent.0 -
My worry right now is vacation. How do you not drink at an AI in Cancun? Hope my fit not gets here so I can log exercise. No cool pool drinks, voldka and soda it is lol0

I bowled every Saturday night and for me, bowling and beer just went together. I continued to bowl and drink 3 beers every Saturday night just planning them in my meal plan. I also left a good amount of calories for dinner after because dining out always went hand in hand too! I lost weight. You might want to stick to cider instead of margaritas though, unless you can limit yourself. Margaritas can have 500 calories! Ouch! Ciders have much less so you can drink more!! Here's a site that tells you what ciders are the best to order along with the calories, sugar content and alcohol %. Enjoy!

Awesome thanks!1 -
welcome to the club sister. My friends pretty much only know how to socialize when booze is around. It's something I battle - I let myself have fun on the weekends but have had to maintain self control during the week . It is so hard but so worth it !0
-
I lost while drinking almost every day. I give up other things instead. I'll gladly forgo ice cream, cookies or chips on a daily basis for a glass or two of wine with dinner.1
-
For me, it's not so much the drink calories, it's the fact that having a couple drinks (that I've set aside calories for) makes me think that eating a plate of nachos is a good idea. Drinking just makes me want to eat and eat and eat...
