Sodium intake

I generally try to stay under 1400 mg a day for purposes of water retention, and the fact that high blood pressure runs in my family. Can others let me know where their average daily sodium intake generally ranges?

Check out my diary. In general, my sodium intake is low.

Mine stays between 4600 and 6000. Probably not a good idea for someone with high blood pressure, unless you are cycling water like crazy (which I do).

Have you even checked your blood pressure?
Some walmarts have a machine by the drugstore. Also some CVS's and Walgreens.
The body needs some salt. Don't mess up.

On most days my sodium runs between 1500-2000 but I've seen days where I've consumed in excess of 2800. My blood pressure is a little low but still in the normal range.

Yes my blood pressure is normal. I get at least 1400 mg most days. I don't think that's messing up. Some days more.

I don't really care about sodium (I have a blood pressure machine and my BP is fine), it tends to naturally hover in the 2500-3500 mg sodium per day. When I do a lot of exercise like a long day of hiking, I deliberately eat more sodium, since hyponatremia is a very real possibility.

Mine is around 2000-2800 depending on how many calories I have that day. It says 1400 for a lot of days but that's because I add salt to my pasta and vegetables for lunch everyday and don't log that since I never really know how much salt I used (I try not to use a lot though).

Mine is around 1,500. I have really high BP and am on meds. I have lost 15lbs since I was first diagnosed . BP has gone down but I'm not sure if it's the change in diet & weight loss or meds. Either way I'm glad it's being controlled.

I eat high, 3,000+. As a runner, I become very dizzy as I'm a salty sweater if I don't eat enough. After a workout I sometimes have to chug a 20oz Gatorade with 2 salt packets. Has me feeling great in 10 minutes.

On average my sodium intake is around 1800. Sometimes it's closer to 2300, but that's maybe once a week.

Doyou find you hold more water with this high salt? Also how much does the salt packets cost?
