@godlikepoetyes I haven't really done anything yet. A few years ago they did the celiac test, and normal blood work. I actually have an appt today to get the ball rolling.

Not sure if you've tried this, but I find I can bloat up 6-8lbs in a week with a distended lower abdomen (like pregnant) when I eat anything with wheats (not gluten that's different). Wheats are in so many things :(

@spikycactus agreed, they are in everything. I tried to limit carbs to just fruits and veggies.. I haven't been able to really pinpoint a food that does it. I know that after a carb/gluten meal I usually get bloated (so I avoid), but the large flareups are what is really getting to me.

If you have a motility issue, then it may not be any specific food. Do you have trouble with nausea?

@godlikepoetyes YES! lol. Several years ago, I started gaining weight, for no reason; nausea after eating; and my periods got super short and light (I had LONG/HEAVY periods prior too), the dr diagnosed me with metformin. Which helped. I went off it about a year and a half ago. But those problems (minus the periods- I had an ablation) started again mid May.

Several years ago, I went through some issues with my stomach, sudden bloating, gas, constipation, etc. I saw a GI specialist, who ran test, but since everything was normal and I wasn't in a flare up, we let it ride. I kept gluten and unhealthy carbs to a minimum, work out daily and am overall healthy.
About 2.5 weeks ago, I have a small serving of pasta at a dinner party and have basically been paying ever since. That night I became gassy, bloated nauseous and miserable. Throughout that weekend, I kept gluten to a minimum, as well as increased greens and such. I became constipated and the bloating continued. I've seen reduced the bloating, as well as the constipation (with a lot of work), and kept my diet normal (prior to the initial issue). Since the first night, my weight has jumped 6 pounds. I am still experiencing the gas and some bloating. Has anyone experienced this? What did you do?

Danielle, were you tested for celiac disease?

A 6 pound jump in such a short time would be water retention and/or natural fluctuation.

I spent 3 years getting labs drawn to find out I have a wheat allergy, and its in everything. They tested me for celiac and lupus. I would also suggest seeing an allergist. I wish I had sooner.

I have been tested for celiac. I'm hoping that at my follow up, I can have her book me with my allergist- and get the food panel done. Seems like the logical next step. Until then it's fodmap- which is kind of confusing to me.

FODMAP is confusing. The trick, as far as I can tell, is to figure out which foods trigger you. It's the same with gastroparesis. But I cannot stress enough the role that anxiety and stress play in flares. Not to mention that I want to eat ALL the crap when I'm stressing, foods I know are perilous--high fiber and fat, sugar. Sugar. Sugar. So bad for SIBO. It's endless.

I agree, I've been pretty careful this week. I'm trying to stick with protein, nuts and low fodmap veggies and fruits. It's helped. I'm hoping up get some sort of allergy test, just to see if that helps pick up some sorta of trigger.
    I agree, when I'm stressed I want everything I can't have!

I don't know if I mentioned this, but when I was diagnosed I learned a lot about how digestion works and some of it was counter-intuitive. Fiber slows down digestion (for everyone hence eating lots of fiber to "keep you full longer") Fat slows down digestion. My diet is the opposite of the diet everyone considers "healthy." NO whole grains. No seeds, nuts. No soluble fiber which means no oatmeal. No legumes. Nothing with indigestible pieces like popcorn, corn, Brussels sprouts. All of these healthy foods do a number on my digestion. Everything is backwards--white bread, white rice, canned veggies and fruits (if I'm lucky). Ground meats. Fruit juices.

I have been tested for food allergies--nothing. I tried the low-FODMAP for about two weeks and noticed no difference. Ditto giving up milk and gluten. Slowly I've had to accept that I really do have gastroparesis.

I really hope you find some answers. It is terribly frustrating to have digestive issues. Before this happened to me, I didn't realize that everything, EVERYTHING is either resolved or seriously messed up in your gut.

    Yikes!
So far this change seems to be helping. Just a bit of minor bloating. Im down 5.5 lbs since last Friday.
