58 lbs down - Diabetic Success

I have battled with my weight my entire adolescent and adult life. I had no confidence whatsoever. This made me turn to even more food... all of the time. I snacked all day every day! Last summer, I started watching what I ate (sometimes). I lost about 20 lbs. It wasn't until April of this year, I went for my physical and was informed I was diabetic! My random glucose testing was 323 and my A1c was 12.1! For those of you that don't know, that is literally slow-acting suicide. It scared me to DEATH! For the past 3 months, I have worked so hard to eat right and exercise. I didn't feel like I looked any different, but knew it meant something that my pants were literally falling off of me. I was wearing size 14, but now am in a size 8! I went for my 3-month check up and my A1c went down to 5.4! I still have a long of ways to go, but This is proof if you put your mind to it, you can do anything! Don't give up!!!!
P.S. Sorry for the pink scribbles. I was showing a little too much lol

Wait! One more thing. What helped you be sooooo sucessful!? Routine, diet, ect. Because this is awesome!0

thank you so much everyone! What helped me be so successful is literally knowing that I was killing myself. I knew I could be healthier, but when a doctor places those numbers in front you, you start to realize something has to change. I got rid of everything that tempted me... and trust me, I was a carb-a-holic to the MAX!! I still slip here and there, but I keep moving forward instead of letting it derail me. I drink so much water now and dropped the carbs to a minimal amount. I still stare at cake when I'm at the grocery store, I still want to grab that candy bar at the checkout lane, but I just change my train of thought when that happens (most of the time it works, but like I said I do slip here and there). A community like this has helped me tremendously as well! I love all of you guys!7

Fantastic!! Way to go!1

Congratulations! I know how it feels. I reversed my diabetes last year through diet and running. Getting off Metformin is the best thing about my health journey.3

I am so excited too! I felt like my diagnosis was a death sentence at first, but not anymore!0

Good for you !0

Last A1c 6.5 I have ditched carbs except fresh fruits at a minimum amount and vegetables excluding potatoes except maybe once every week or two. Hoping I can get my A1C down to 5.4 when I have my draw done in October. I also need to lose about a 100lbs so hoping to lose a little weight as well. Well done ladies you are truly a inspiration.

Truly amazing!!! How far into your loss did you start to see changes with numbers?
Anyone have any suggestion on getting random insulin down?
A1c is normal now. Cut out sugar flour etc. Starchy vegetables. In May dropped 34 pounds. Random insulin still 288 no change.0 -
I actually started seeing a change after about 25 lbs lost and 2-3 weeks after my diagnosis. My carbs pretty much come from veggies and some fruit, but I slip sometimes as well. I've been really bad this weekend as we have company, but I just have to take it as a new day tomorrow and keep trucking0

Your post is so inspiring, my doctor just told me that I am pre-diabetic and it scared the **** outta me! Can I ask what you would eat in a normal day? I really need to lose weight and get myself healthy, just need some guidance...thank you1

Wow you look great! So proud of you! Keep up the good work! I have diabetics in my family and it is hereditary in my case. I am not diabetic, but I am pre-diabetic, insulin resistance, and have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), so I am on metformin and since I've been gaining weight my Dr upped my metformin intake and right now my weight is flucuating, but it's only been a couple weeks since she upped it..I hope that someday soon my body will let me win this war and let me loose more. So far I've lost 9 pounds since June 7th, and have been working out 3-4 times a week and on top of working out, I've been trying to walk 1-2 miles a day. Again, Congratulations to you, this is an inspiration for me!2

Wow that's amazing. I was just diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic and I used to do bootcamp workouts but slacked off after I had my daughter two years ago. I hope if I can get back into exercise I can come off my medication.1
