It is based on your current size and goals. If you change your goal to loose 2lbs a week it will decrease your calorie limit.

Bigger bodies need more calories than smaller bodies. As you loose weight your calorie needs will also decrease.

I can eat around 2500 on most days and still lose over 2lbs a week. I'm tall, big, and walk around 6 or 7 miles on most days.

no...I could lose on 2k a day in the summer...but it would be slower than I like.

But depending on your current weight and activity that can be quite normal.

I am at the moment, set to one pound a week right now and I've been eating around that much.

Work keeps me moving back and forth like nuts.

You could always cut calories if you aren't losing as much as you would like.

Pretty sure a lot of people really *could* lose on 2000 because they will eat 1300-1600 5 days a week and 3000+ on the weekends after restricting lower all week, averaging the 7 days out to around 2000 calories. Not saying everyone does this but a lot of people do when they aren't on their typical work schedule, social functions. So while they may believe they absolutely need a low amount to lose, it all averages out.

I like the idea of eating more every day so I don't feel deprived. But I also have issues with hormone imbalance, past weight loss has screwed with my head a lot so for me, slow and sustainable is fine. if the scale stops moving, and I'm exercising an hour a day too, then I would lower calories maybe 200 more for a week, seeing if that moves anything. Also, sometimes helps to increase protein or play around with your macronutrients to see a shift in the scale.

But yes, I think 2000 with the amount of activity you do is reasonable, given you have weight to lose. At my thinnest, my BMR was a lot lower so I wasn't A. as hungry for that much food and B. Burned about that much TDEE (I was 103 lbs though...not going that low again!)

I usually try to eat 2100/day, but my TDEE is either 2900 or 3300 [depending on if my general activity level is light or moderate]. As long as your calorie intake is lower than your TDEE then you'll lose weight.

Are you a male? I would assume if your TDEE is 3300 you would be. According to my fitbit I've gotten up tot 3k calories only a handful of times. So jealous of guys metabolism.

I *could* have 2000 and still lose, right now i'm sitting at 1900 though. My number is that high because I'm still obese, and because I walk at least 1-3 miles every day. So there's that.

I eat 1750 on average (MFP tells me) i never eat over 2000. My TDEE is 3500 for my weight, so im still at 1500-1750 deficit daily.

Thanks for replies :) yeh I have put it to 1850 for a few more weeks then when I get to goal I will up it a little :) I'm so happy I'm finally in the healthy bmi range just but this calorie counting is really the best thing that's happened to me it's shown me I can have any foods I like in smaller portions :) thank god for mfp

Easily. But I'm a male with a good amount of muscle. MFP will have your calorie goals right if your parameters (height, weight, etc.) are correct.

When my thyroid is functioning properly I eat 1800-2100 a day and am fine, when my thyroid is struggling I gain if I eat above 1600.

Nothing wrong with eating the most you can while still achieving your weight loss goals.

Let's just say that it is my current mission in life to do so.

And obviously my experience is not directly comparable to yours due to gender.

    But 1 year, ~25lbs, 2775 Cal a day eaten.

I am sure I even posted a thread about it

Yeah I'm a guy, but also quite heavy so my metabolism isn't as fast as other guys. I also have my goal set very conservatively [losing 1 pound per week], so my TDEE might be a bit lower if I try to lose more per week [though I have been cautioned about trying this, as slow and steady tends to be a more permanent weight loss than quick and rocky].

my maintenance is 1600 so nope - i couldnt lol

a man likely could or anyone with a significant amount of weight to lose.

All depends on your particular scenario.

No way. I am on maintenance @ around 1800/day, and get between 20K & 22K per day on my fitbit.
I am on the short side though 5'2-3/4".

I'm 5'2 and lost 30 lbs eating between 1600-1900 cals. My TDEE is 2200 according to my FitBjt (and I'm maintaining so that's accurate) so yeah, I lose slowly eating 2000 or so cals/day.

I tend to eat a little lower during the week and save some cals for the weekend since I have more social events and fun stuff on the weekends.

    I also average 15k steps/day.

This. I average 20K steps, work to a 1500 KCal net goal, but often find that the calories burnt permit around 2500+ KCals to be eaten. Which is great, as I love the kind of portions they eat in cartoons....

I have been playing around with my cals for awhile and found that I can maintain easily on 2000, but to lose weight 1800 is the most I can eat. I don't mind the slow loss since I'm only 8 lbs from goal. 5'6 female.

I lose 1lb a week at 3000 cals but it has no bearing on anything as everyone is different. Not sure what the point of this thread is?

With exercise, I have many days where I am able to eat about 2000 cals. I eat all my exercise cals back and yes, I'm also losing.

I do...well...I should say if I stuck to 2000 calories I would. I just readjusted my goals earlier this week, because I was trying to cut to low and then overeating 1-2 days a week which erased any deficit I had. I lost most of my weight eating around 2k calories. Last time I did pretty good sticking to my goals (back in Feb this year) I was eating I want to say an average of 1870 and losing 0.8 lbs per week (around 125 ish to 122 ish). So even then eating around 2k would have had me losing weight...just at a slightly slower pace.

Activity level plays a big role in how much you can eat. I'm a fairly active person, so even this close to goal I can still eat 2k and lose.

I eat anywhere from 1600-2300cal a day depending on how much I burn with walking or workouts. I get about 20-25k steps a day and mfp I have myself set as sedentary so I eat about 75% of my calories back. Im not necessarily losing weight. I havent in a couple months but Im not gaining either. I toggle between the same 2lbs daily. Lol

When I train in the spring for my obstacle races in the summer, I would need 2500-2750 just to MAINTAIN. Which is very hard when trying to bulk and retain muscle. I'm 5'9 and around 150 lbs and on a normal day like today (10k steps) I would need 2250 to maintain.

My maintenance, without exercise, is 1950 cal per day (I'm 5'7" 35 year old female, 142 lbs). On days that I work out, yes I can eat over 2000 cal and still maintain (or even lose, depending on how much exercise and how much I go over 2000). So, no, you aren't the only one getting that many calories! It's actually pretty awesome to have that many to work with :)

I have days where I walk enough steps to get 2k, although I average around 1700-1800. I'm 5'1" and at 203 right now and I'm losing just fine.
