You've come to the right place. That is a monster goal, and a great one, but might feel overwhelming and thus easy to walk away from. I would start with a much more modest and short-term goal (for example lose 20 pounds in the next 2 months). Once you've achieved this goal, you can set the next one with some new confidence.
I would also encourage you to make a plan and stick to it. Many people try to make changes without a plan, and they fail quickly. Identify what you can do, as well as what you can't. As you lose weight, remember to re-evaluate this. Identify your motivations, and which ones will help you the most on the days when you just don't want to do it anymore.
Spend some time here. Get support, learn about nutrition and exercise, and ask lots of questions. Look at the success stories, as well as the people who are struggling, and realize you're not alone!
Most of all, be patient. Your body is used to the way things are right now, and may be slow to change. The scale may not move for awhile. Stick to the plan even when it doesn't seem to be working in the short term.
I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to add me if you like.7 -

Hey! I didn't lose that much, but I did lose 125 lbs. And i've kept it off for 6 years.
But losing 125 lbs took me 3 years! Yes, it can be done faster, but this is about your long-term future. Don't expect fast results. This is for your life.
You can do this!4 -
YES! Always so happy for young people that TAKE THEIR BODIES BACK while they are young. You are giving your self a gift every day! You CAN do this. WANT it. Don't be afraid of the journey love. Just STAY on it. I have few regrets in my life but I can honestly say that not taking my body back when I was 29-50 years old is my biggest regret. Don't have regret that lasts that long. If I may, I would say to you that 5 lb goals for me at first kept me encouraged and they add up quickly. Enjoy and have fun discovering what your amazing body can do when we use our amazing minds too.3

You are at the right place. Stay here, log EVERY thing that you eat and drink, be patient, and we will all work through this together.4

Set yourself reasonable and short term goals so that you don't get frustrated. Also if you lose the weight too quickly you will end up with a lot of flabbiness and loose skin. Focus on learning as much as you can about your health and what your body actually needs and you will have no problem losing the weight. It's a lot to learn about and shocking how wrong almost everything that has ever been marketed to you has been.2

Hey Brandon! You can totally do this bro! I'm in NYC too bro. You'll find a lot of insight and good advice on here for sure. Make a good plan and exercise plan. And stick to it. And start off at your own pace but stick with it and you will for sure achieve this goal my man! Lots of luck and inspiration!2

Great advice already!
One day at a time. All you can do is today. Do the best you can today and just keep going! There will be ups and downs, great days and tough days. We ALL have them!
Congrats on making the decision to change your life!!!!10 -
I appreciate all the love and encouragement. It's definitely a long journey and I'm willing to take it day by day. I've learned that nothing really works unless you work it. It's time to work it. Thank you guys for all the support.7

The right place indeed! We are all on our own personal journey and this is a great community for support!
Day by day is the only way you can take it and encouragement is here!!1 -
Welcome. Congrats for making a first step. Here's my insight : We all have days when we don't eat like we are suppose to. Don't fret it, learn from it and make tomorrow a better day. We all have days when we don't get exercise in like we want. Don't beat yourself up. Just pick yourself up. Tomorrow is a new day. Doubts and negativity will come and go. Push through it. There are no can nots there is only I will not. It's your choice. All results form from a starting point with determination and will power backing it. You don't have to be perfect, but you do have to try.
Best wishes on your journey.
