I just put in my goal weight as current weight on mfp (to see how many calories I'd need to maintain) and it came up that I'd "lost" 18 kg. I knew I'd put on weight but that's so much more than my brain was thinking.
I've hurt my back a few months ago so even walking can be painful, so it's going to take a lot longer to lose the weight, but how long has it taken you to lose almost 20 kg? The main problem for me is eating between meals and emotional eating.

    I lost that in about 6 months, ALL through changing my eating and NOT through any exercise. I came up with a strict plan and stuck to it, it really is as simple as eating less calories than you burn.

    You can do this. Talk to us lot about it, there is plenty support in here, and don't cheat, because it;s only yourself you are cheating. Why have that 'ONE' packet of crisps or biscuit that is not on your plan, because if that have THAT one, then you can justify ANOTHER one, and before you know it the plan is gone.

    Be aware of the calosries in food. My downfall is curry. But there are currys which are 700 calories, and currys which are 450 which taste just as good. There's 250 calories saved right there, 10% of my daily intake.

    Try to stop all sugar if you can. Fizzy drinks. Sugar in tea and/or cereal. It's a load of weight-adding content right there you can probably get away without. You won't feel any less full.

    I avoid 'empty calories' altogether. Any calories which will not count as food don't count at all. That's bottles of drinks mainly, even ones which contain no sugar. They still tend to contain calories. I'd rather count that toward food.

    I can't tell if you are male or female, but look for your target 'weight maintain' calories, then take some off and work out a plan. And stick to it. We can help you.

    Good luck :0)

    @waynetaylor_co_uk thanks! I'm female, 30, and CW is 75kg
    You're right about the sugar and biscuit issues! Yesterday I had a caramel wafer (which would have been fine) and then had 3 more - so ate 500 more calories than needed and for no nutrition whatsoever!
    I feel my main meals are healthy-ish, although still don't hit the recommended fruit and veg.
    I need to sit down and plan my days in advance really (and stop buying snacks!)

    Wow, was just about to come back and add this.

    I find that planning the day in MFP before you start rather than just adding in what you have eaten is much more productive and rewarding. It's actually quite enjoyable to achieve the targets and you feel MUCH more guilty about being naughty :0)

    @waynetaylor_co_uk I would probably log better too! I tend to log my breakfast then forget about it, and by the evening I'll have eaten far too much again!

    :) It's hard work at first, but if you stick to it your body's expectation for food and hunger patterns change, so you want it less anyway!

    @waynetaylor_co_uk I was skinny until my 20s, but it's only recently that I remembered that I used to feel hungry a lot more than these days (because I keep eating so never really have time to feel hungry) so I need to remember that feeling, and that it's ok too (although not so hungry that it affect day to day life, just enough to be ok with feeling hungry until the next meal)

    I am almost 40, and trying to lose some 18 kilos or so. I also have a sedentary lifestyle for now, until September. I started this adventure 5 days ago, only by limiting my portions, especially carbs. I already lost 2 kilos.
