With this weight loss *kitten*. I eat clean but end up eating crap everyday
For example, I eat carrot and cucumber before lunch and post lunch end up snacking on chocolates or chips. I am so depressed I want to _____ myself(fill in the blank, I won't go there for fear of ban lol) I will never be thin again. i am just two steps away from sticking a finger down my throat sorry for such a negative post I am really upset. Rant over

Weight loss is about being in a calorie deficit, regardless of what you eat. If you don't want to eat less, then move more to create a deficit. In essence, its about using more energy than you consume. Try not to get down about it, consistency in the long term will prove results, not a couple of bumps in the road along the way. Eat what you enjoy, but within reason/balance and you will reach your goal.2

quote of the day: "Self-pity is an opiate. The most insidious problem with drugs is that the human body develops a tolerance for them and requires larger and larger doses to achieve the same effect. The same is true with self-pity. The more you allow yourself to indulge in it, the more you will require. Soon, self-pity will become a habit, one so debilitating that you will rob yourself of all the potential you possess. Happily, there is a cure. If you truly analyze the situation, most often you will find that the problems that have driven you to pity yourself are mostly of your own creation. It follows, then, that the best person to remedy the problem is the person who created it: you, yourself."16

Hey don't be so down on yourself. We all do it sometimes. Maybe try eating more food including protein in the AM to stop the naughty cravings in the PM. Also don't worry about falling off the wagon every now and then, weight loss is for the long haul and new habits take a while to form. Try not to focus on Thin and aim for healthy, As long as you balance out the junk food splurges with good nutrition the rest of the time it shouldn't be a problem. Don't forget to be nice to yourself! You're totally worth it xx2

you dont have to eat clean to lose weight, if you want that chocolate after dinner have it........but log it first thing in the morning so you know you have the caloies for it.
I had chocolate pancakes for dinner last night!5 -
Are you a vegetarian? Why just cucumbers and carrots for lunch? How many calories are you allowing yourself a day?
Get a scale and weigh your food in grams and your liquid (grams for liquid are the same or close to mL's), the hardest part is finding an entry in the food database that is correct. You will probably be able to eat more than you assume. As long as you are in "pity party" mode you will not want to do any of these things. Have your pity party for 30 minutes and they put on your big girl panties and get it done.........and you don't have to eat "clean" (I assume you mean preservative/dye free all natural) foods to lose weight....change one or two things at a time not all at once. If you eat margarine replace it with butter and or coconut oil, if you use vegetable oil replace it with olive oil and/or coconut oil, if you drink whole milk replace it with 2% then 1% , so on and so on (these are just examples). Exercise to earn more calories for those days when you feel hungrier than usual --- go for a walk/hike, ride a bike, play basketball if that's your thing, go swimming, roller skating, dancing....exercise means moving, what I'm trying to say is exercise can be fun things.1 -
@marm1962 I am Indian therefore my diet is predominantly vegetarian. i eat eggs almost everyday and chicken once or twice a month. My daily calorie goal is 1530 and I eat anywhere fron 1200-1400 and walk/jog for an hour 5-6 days a week. I eat lunch/dinner comprising of chapati(indian flatbread) with homemade curry and eat a salad of cucumbers and carrots before both meals to fill up. My grouse is I cant stop snacking on wrong foods.0

This. No need to eat clean to lose weigh. I didn't... I eat nutritious foods and included my Favorite meal and snacks. Also, make sure your calorie deficit is not too large,

Are you alluding to 80/20 rule? I think I am doing that but the weight is not coming off quickly. How quickly did you lose weight while eating your favourite snacks besides eating nutritious meals? I have been here since feb 2015. Started at 90kgs. I am down to 78 kgs but I cheated a lot these past few days so the weighing scale is scaring me0

Why bother? Because each and everyone one of us is worth the bother, and because you have done so well and can continue to your goal.
What has worked for me is all food in moderation (yes chocolate everyday), and sticking to portion sizes. It is all about CICO. I lost over 1/2 of my current body weight and have kept it off for 2-1/2 years now, eating this way, and moving more.2 -

my apologies, I misunderstood and thought you were having weight loss issues. I don't do the wrong/right food thing...I do the better/worse food thing though ie...apple vs potato chips, white potato vs sweet potato, but if I want ice cream or chips or even a cookie or 7 then I have it.1 -

weight wont come off quickly, sounds like you have your hopes set a bit high at the rate your loss should be.
with your calorie goal they is no reason you couldnt log a small chocolate snack per day for after lunch because with the calories you would have left is more than enough to eat and not be hungry, especially if you eat alot of veg as they are low calories for alot of food.
the important thing is to LOG the calories for that snack and keep them in your goal for the day1 -
don't be so hard on yourself. weight loss is not a quick thing, except maybe for those first few weeks when all the water weight comes off. give yourself a chance. i've plateaued for the last 3 weeks even though i've been eating right and logging and excercising. i increased my fluid intake (hardly drink during the day) and today i lost 3lbs when i weighed myself.
like the others say if you want it, have it in moderation and log it before you eat it. do you weigh your food? for more calorific foods, like fries, i do.
youve lost a lot already, so be proud of that. just give yourself a break, don't stress about it and it'll happen.1 -
Plan your snacks in MFP in advance. Build them in. Build your day of food beforehand. Then just keep at it. Slow results are lasting results. And you are succeeding already. Keep at it.0

Don't buy junk food. That's the only way not to eat it.2

You're bothering because you're worth it. Honestly, I'd wild out and go crazy on some chocolate and chips if all I had was a carrot and cucumber prior to. LMBO. I think alot of us begin to see food as the enemy when we're trying to lose fat and it's just not real. We still need to eat, just eat at a deficit. This doesn't mean you can only eat one cracker a day, this means you can still eat the foods you like just in smaller portions or not as often if they're really high in calories. I'm a New Orleans girl, so I know eating Popeyes and Hot Sausage Po Boys would not be ideal for me on a daily basis but I'd be lying if I say I'd never touch them again. Never give up or renege on you. You're worth it. Keep pushin'.0

Firstly, don't be so hard on yourself! Weight loss is hard, and staying on an eating plan that doesn't contain unhealthy foods is an impossibility for a lot of people. You've done really well already, you should feel pride!
So for the unhealthy snacking issue, perhaps plan out your shop more effectively. If you don't want to snack on chocolate and chips, replace them on your shop with healthier snacks. It doesn't have to be all veggies and typical diet foods, I'd recommend looking on the recipes section of this site for inspiration. Also drinking water between meals helps to satisfy hunger cravings that lead to snacking. Often my hunger is just boredom so I get a drink and go do something, even if it's just some housework or a craft or some buzzfeed quizzes. Anything really!
As for the guilt and helpless feeling, it will pass. Don't shove a finger down your throat. As a recovered eating disorder case (bulimia then turned into binge eating disorder which led to a whole other range of difficulties) it really isn't worth it. If the feelings of negativity are happening often, have a look into mindfulness. It's simple things to keep the mind active and helps to improve self worth and feelings of happiness within the self. Weight can be a daunting thing, it can make even the strongest of people feel negative about themselves, but the reality of it is, we're all still worth respect and happiness, we deserve it for trying to change ourselves and having goals and pushing ourselves. You are worth more than a number on the scale, so don't fear it.
Finally, have realistic expectations for yourself. Weight doesn't come off quickly without an unnatural and harmful way of life. You are going to have food that is unhealthy unless you are militantly strict with yourself, and even then you will end up caving eventually. If you want chocolate, have it, but try to keep the rest of your food healthy for the day so you stay within your calorie allowance. Losing weight isn't about depriving yourself of everything good in life, but about incorporating it into a healthy lifestyle.
Best of luck to you Peaches! We're all in this together2 -
It sounds like you feel like your eating is out of control, you start out with good intentions and then you're compelled to eat 'bad' foods. I think if you do similar to what other people suggest- allow yourself treats and log them, then you will regain some control and feel better. I used to have catastrophic thinking- I.e I used to think that everything was ruined if I went off plan and had something high calorie but now realise that having one treat isn't going to ruin things for the whole week. I just get back on it and carry on. Even 1lb or 0.5lb weight loss per week will have amazing consequences long term. If you lose 0.5 lbs until Christmas you will be around 10lb lighter.0

This weight loss thing requires a life style change with the way you eat your food. Losing weight is work and requires a commitment from you. Dropping weight does not happen over night..it takes weeks, months, and years. One day at a time! You can do this! You just have to want it bad enough.1
-
Don't be so hard on yourself, weight loss isn't an easy thing to accomplish! I find it easier by finding foods that you love and making sure that you eat them on a regular basis. For example, I LOVE chocolate - I could never go a long period without it. So I've been buying those big Ghirardelli bars when they go on sale (I always buy a different flavor of dark chocolate) and have a square or two whenever I'm craving chocolate. Also, I love pizza. I like to have it once a week. My fiance and I have decided that instead of buying it, we're going to start making homemade pizza. It's cheaper, healthier, and we're able to make it as few or many calories as we want.1

You bother because you're worth it; because you want something better. That's a good thing.0

You can have chocolate FOR DINNER if that's what you want. Clean eating isn't magic....clean still has calories...if you want to lose you have to eat less than you use.1 -

One thing that really helped me was making sure I did not have those tempting foods in the house until I could control myself. The first month of my journey I would only eat raspberries if I was feeling I needed something sweet. I even stopped buying snacks for my husband, he likes snack cakes, ice cream etc. Now im able to have those things back in the house after 3 months of not. They don't really phase me at all but I do have my own snacks that I prefer dark chocolate.

Weight loss is not your problem. It is the shame you are holding onto that is the problem.4
