So I'm thinking of trying out going no carb for a while. (If you have any recipes, tips etc. they'd be much appreciated because I have no clue how to go about doing this)
I don't however want to go the rest of my life without pasta, bread. .all the good stuff So I'm pointing this to those of you who have gone carb-less and then (periodically and healthfully) added them back into meals, does the weight start to creep back on or were you able to keep it off?
AND. .what's your favorite no carb food/meal

Wish I could help you---just checked my food diary for "no carb" foods and all I saw that fit those requirements for today were beef, chicken and EV Olive Oil.0

Extreme low carb is not the healthiest way to lose weight - you get no fruit, very little veggies, no whole grains, and eat tons of meat or other proteins. I've done the program and can't stick with it for very long - plus, no matter how diligent you are, you do gain back some of the pounds when you add in carbs.
My best advice - eat healthy and balanced, stay at your MFP calorie target, and the weight will come off!

How about instead of going NO-carb, you can cut carbs back - getting them only from [non-starchy] vegetable sources?
BTW - I eat pretty low-carb. I initially only relied on vegetables (lots of lettuce and broccoli), and a couple of grams from dairy. I now allow a small quantity of fruit, and will splurge on "the good stuff" in VERY small quantities, and only when out with friends for dinner, etc. It's only been 30 days since I cut grains/sugar, but it seems pretty sustainable thus far...0 -
I have not done the no carb but if you eat right and exercise sensibly it will stay off. If we all always ate right and exercised none of us would be fat with or without carbs.0

I wouldn't do the NO carbs at all. Carbs are necessary in moderation and certain times of the day. Carbs provide our bodies with energy. It is the type of carbs that is important and when you eat it. The no carb diet is doomed to make someone fail and certainly puts stress on your body.0

Just be aware of your moods...Some people..myself included...have very bad mood swings on no-low carb diets..and for myself the weight came off very fast but it came straight back on when I got back on a more balanced diet..I would rather do that that go through the terrible mood swings I went through....Good Luck!!!0

You may try looking for Paleo (Paleolithic, Caveman, Hunter/Gatherer) Diet (Challenge) recipes. It's not completely no carb but, it is no grain and no starch.0

I tried South Beach last year and for the first 2 weeks, it's totally carb-free. No sugar at all. No fruits, even specific vegetables were not allowed. I felt awful those 2 weeks and only lost 1 pound. I kept it up (south beach, through the various phases) for about 8 weeks and lost 7 pounds. One day, I caved and ate refined sugars (white breads/pastas/ice cream, etc). I gained 10 lbs after that. And so I ended up here.
I do have a friend that lost 40 lbs and has kept it off for over a year by living the south beach lifestyle. So it does work, it just didn't work for me.
My diet was already low carb to begin with. I am a vegetarian and my husband has type 1 diabetes, so we didn't really keep breads, pastas or sugary snacks in the house. I'll look through my south beach book and see what recipes I can find.0 -
I tried the diet plan outlined in the book "The Metabolism Miracle". It is not no carb, but it is very controlled, low carbs. I thought it was difficult to follow, but I was meticulous in following it and lost only about 4 pounds, which came right back.
Although I didn't get the desired results from this, there is one recipe that I absolutely loved. I'm not sure what the calorie content is, since I haven't made it since joining MFP.
Cinnamon Ricotta Pudding: (serves 1)
1/2 cup part-skm ricotta cheese
1 TB low fat sour cream
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1 (1 g) packet Splenda (note: I used Stevia or Truvia)
light whipped cream
Mix together the ricotta, sour cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and Splenda in a dessert bowl. Chill and top with light whipped cream before serving.0 -
I have done South Beach Diet on and off for the last few years. The first time I did it. I lost 8 pounds in the first 2 weeks(Which is a no carb and sugar) phase and then about 12 in the first month and about 20 pounds. However, I gained that back and then some once you stop following the diet/low carb way of life.
I find that you can do it but once you get busy with work, kids etc.. it does become harder to follow and subsequently you wind up gaining more weight. With SBD, it is very difficult to eat out because almost everything outside has some sugar in it.0 -
Thank you all for your input I'm thinking of just doing low carb and up my protein. Limit starches to a minimum. .trying for 1-2 times a week. Hope it works0

Yes. You can sustain on low carb diet versus no carb diet and not feel deprived. I try to limit my carbs too. My main carb sources are veges & fruits. Sometimes, I have a low carb tortilla (1/2) here and there.0

I've noticed in my diary I've been going over in carbs pretty regularly and just want to try to stay in the green. Plus I have a float trip coming up in about a month and my stomach is a little to flabby for me lol0
