I don't know if you watch Weeds, but that reminds me of Celia's daughter being a model for Huskaroo's!

It is so sad that even back then, sizes 10, 12 & 14 were considered 'chubby'. I will be thrilled when I finally get down to a 12, or even a 10!

Husky is a size definition now. At Wal-mart you can get any size in slim, regular, or husky.
  • That sounds like something my uncle would have put on my dresser to give me a "hint"

That is a crazy add, and the girl in the pic doesnt even look big at all

Never forget, though, that the one of the greatest sex symbols of all time was Marilyn Monroe. Size 12.

Ladies, healthy and confident are sexy.

Rock on ladies! Own your curves!

These are sizes for girls. And the 1/2 sizes are simply cut a little wider. So, a ten-year-old girl, for instance, could but a skirt or blouse that fit around her, but wasn't longer. They don't call them "chubby" sizes anymore, but 1/2 sizes are still around.

   YES! And it was nice to see that it was empowering for the daughter (only mortifying to Celia)...

Sizes were different back then though. I can easily fit into a size 00 in todays clothing (simply because I am short), but in vintage clothing hardly squeeze into a size 3 (that used to be the smallest size, they didn't have size 000, 00, 0, and 1, 2, 3 back then).

As for the vanity sizing and the poster, that disturbs me that a size 8.5 (which could easily be a size 4 by todays standards) is considered overweight. Even relating to a child, a size 4 is hardly large! :noway:

Wow! Really? It's amazing at what used to be acceptable but was it really?

The times are not different. People are different. "Chubby" was not an offensive term back then because the world wasn't full of people who wake up every day looking for something to be offended by. We used to call people with disabilities "cripples." When that started offending everyone, we called them "handicapped." Now, they're just "people with disabilities" because "handicapped" is offensive. What will it be next?

I was always "chubby" as a kid, and I was reminded of it frequently, so this is not coming from someone who has no idea what it's like to be teased. I just think people need to learn to accept that life isn't fair, and there are a lot of rude people in the world, and you're going to get your feelings hurt from time to time.
