Hello,
I have been trying to lose weight my whole life and have not had much luck with it for any length of time.
I'm a 26 year old female 5,7 and at my all time highest weight of 250lbs.
Does anyone have a menu/diet plan they have found effective that is easy to follow?
Or any workout plans?
I need serious help and would love to get a nutritionist just can't afford it so I thought I'd see if anyone on here can help.
Thanks

Instead of looking for some quick start fad nonsense buy a food scale and start logging. Eat at a calorie deficit and try and get dine extra movement. You are not a car - no jump starting needed.7

Sticking with a diet, and more importantly making permanent changes that will help you keep the weight off has to be something you "create" something you learn over time.
I can give you a list of foods I like, but that doesn't help you if you don't like them. You don't need special foods, you don't have to be perfect, you can learn as you go. Losing weight is a marathon, not a sprint.
My strategies are to choose a moderate weekly weight loss goal. Extreme dieting for months on end lead to cheating for me.
Another strategy for me it to include foods I like. I need to "manage" portions, not eliminate foods. Eliminating ice cream (while dieting) leaves my without an understanding of what a real portion looks like. Choosing a moderate weekly weight loss goal gives me enough calories to include a treat everyday.
I don't have a workout plan for you. I'm over 50, need low impact, was quite out of shape....I don't know what your fitness level is. But my strategy for exercise is to find something I like. Something that I can continue for a lifetime. I've lost weight & quit exercise in the past. I started with a very manageable weekly goal - 60 minutes (4x15, 3x20, 2x30). I charted that on a calendar so I was accountable. Then I added more minutes as time went on.
Exercise is not required for weight loss. Exercise is for fitness and continued good health.5 -
I understand that impatience, Jess, but quickly found no one has any patience for my impatience.
Best advice I received here right off the bat, is eat normally and log everything to start. That will give you a picture of where you are really starting out and make a plan from there.
Keep seeking opinions in the forum and you will find very helpful advice! But don't get discouraged by the litany of judge mental or argumentative voices, just focus on what helps you!
Good luck to you!!!2 -
In my head, I framed it as making better choices most of the time. You know that fruit and vegetables are better for you than pop and donuts. So, eat more fruit and vegetables, less pop and donuts. Look at what you eat now and start swapping, cutting down portion sizes and making decisions based on the calorie budget gives you.
For exercise, do what you like! For me, walking. Just normal walking the sidewalks in my town, is what I enjoy. I've recently paired it with Pokemon GO, but again, it's fun to me. It doesn't have to be 50lb dumbells and hours on the treadmill. Simply move more than you do now. As you progress, challenge yourself. Walk further and/or faster. Find hilly places to walk. Maybe add some weight work in if you want. But to start? Just do something. Anything.2 -
First you have to be COMMITTED. Lots of people start, but never finish. So if you're committed, that means you do what it takes to get it done regardless of obstacles and deterrences. So are you really ready?

Hi there girlie! I'm the same age and most likely face some of the same challenges you do. It can be intimidating having everyone say watch your calorie intake and exercise likely crazy. While it can lead to fast results it definitely isn't sustainable and worse, it isn't fun!! I'd recommend starting with some exercise. Even 15 to 20 minutes a day of shaking what your momma gave you in the privacy of your own home, or walking up and down the stairs in your house/apartment can get you excited about life changes and healthier lifestyles! If I start exercising, I get motivated to eat healthier! Good luck1

Weight management is simple, but not necessarily easy - but you are making it unnecessarily difficult for yourself.
Don't try to lose weight. Set a reasonable calorie deficit, eat food you like, hit your calorie goal - and you lose weight. Luck has nothing to do with it. Jumpstarting weight loss is nonsense.
You don't need another person's diet plan. Any diet that provides a calorie deficit, will be effective as long as you follow it, but it will only be easy to follow if it's your plan, and you'll still have to make it work (sticking to it).
You don't need workout plans. Just move a little more.
If you're reluctant to change behavior, lack of money can feel like the perfect excuse, but you don't need a professional unless you have medical issues that interfere with or are interfered by diet and exercise. If you do, you'll need to talk to a dietitian, not a nutritionist. You're not supposed to spend money to lose weight. Eating less will cost less, not more. All you will need, is an electronic food scale - 10-15 dollars.
Even though you will need to implement some changes, you don't have to do it all at once, in fact, easy, incremental changes are much better because they tend to stick, and your "goal" behavior isn't a life of suffering, it's a better way of living, where you still will be doing things you like, but not harm yourself anymore.0 -
The best plan is the one you will actually do. F motivation, consistency and dedication to a real action plan is where it is at.2

There is no jump starting anything. We cant do the work for you, but we can tell what will work to get you there if you really want to get there. You do not need to pay for a nutritionist, pay for food plans, special foods etc.. Its all FREE right here and now..
1) MFP account setup and configured to loose X pounds a week.
2) A food scale.
3) Log your food consumption daily using number 1 & 2
4) 100% Commitment to your weight loss goals
4) Patience

My husband and I are doing this together. He has lost 35 pounds since May and I have lost 29 pounds since April. We weigh all our food on a scale, and stay within our caloire goals. He exercises, me not so much though I'm great a *planning* to exercise later in the day apparently. The cool part is, we both feel like we've been given the key to being healthy and it's as simple as calories in calories out.1
