Xylitol

I just bought a greenfood powder with xylitol n derivative of stevia listed in the ingredients among others. I drank it for the first time today. I liked the taste but I'm not so sure about the gas/bloating. Did that come from the xylitol? How safe is it? Would appreciate some knowledgeable feedback. Thanks!

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol, which can cause bloating for some people. I can handle a little (like in a piece of gum) but too much messes with my stomach. Everyone is different, if it makes you uncomfortable you'll have to find something with a different sweetener.

Thanks kimny for your op. What do you think though if I added some fennel seeds to the green mix, do you think it would lessen the gas if not totally counteract it, since the Indians are known to chew on them after meals for antiflatulent properties, among other health benefits.

Xylitol is safe for humans, but can be deadly to pets, so if you have any please take care to prevent them from getting any.

I have absolutely no idea. I just don't eat things that don't agree with me. It's up to you what you are willing to deal with or try. There are lots of choices for sweeteners, so I just avoid sugar alcohols.
