Heyaaaaa! I have a quick question.. I'm an apple shaped and I carry my fat in my upper body. I really want to try and look lean from the top & a little thicker from the bottom. I train legs but I feel if I lift heavy from my upper body I'm going to look more broadly & that is not what I want. Should I lift lightly from my upper body?

Nope you should not. And no, you're not gonna look more broadly in your upper body.
My upper body is much stronger, I need it to be very strong to do what I want my body to be able to do (I do aerial training along with my lifting) and I don't think I'm broad at all.
Sure, you feel that way when you're building the muscle and the fat is still there but as soon as you cut you'll get lean again.
This is what I look like after bulking, I feel manly but I know I'm not. It's just a feeling.
We can't get manly from lifting heavy. We need performance enhancing drugs if we wan't that look.
Keep lifting heavy, keep building your muscle and when you've got your muscle mass, go through a cut and you'll be thankful for how heavy you lifted7 -
I lift weights 3-4 days/wk and the first thing to go was fat from my upper body if that helps!1

Although some people think they lose body fat at different parts of their body you actually lose it evenly all over1

Just wanted to say you look amazing!!
OP -- I would not stick to just lifting heavy on your lower body. For me I enjoy benching at my max just as much as I do squatting.

I think people lose it differently. While I was also losing fat from my lower body at the same time, my measurements on my upper half were going down steadily for the first month before anything showed change from my lower half. At first anyway.0 -
Women just don't get bulky from lifting; we don't have the hormones for it. Lift heavy all over. Once your body fat percentage gets low enough you'll lose the fat you want from around your middle.0
