I am HUNGRY

I'm guessing I have a pretty active metabolism. If I don't eat when I get hungry, I get nauseous, shakey, and sometimes feel as if I will pass out.
Problem is, I'm basically hungry every two hours. So diet law says to have a small, healthy snack with something high fiber or protein right? That doesn't work! I'm still hungry!
I thought, well, I need to just shrink my stomach, so I'll stick with it. Still, hungry.
I don't have a lot of weight to loose, but I know that eating so much has a lot to do with my inability to loose these last few pounds.
Can anyone recommend filling snacks? Or meal plans that will leave me full, rather than looking around the house for something else I can fill myself with?

Vegetables! You can eat a TON of veggies for just a few calories. When I first started, I would get hungry all the time. I started keeping frozen veggies in my freezer because I could eat a whole bag for under 100 calories (depending, of course, on the type of veggie).
The other day, I had 6 ounces of baby carrots (a double serving) for 70 calories.0 -
can of green beans is only 70 calories and fills you up pretty well
I like snacking on cucumbers- keep skin on it is more filling....a whole cucumber is like 30 calories0 -
We sound like long lost identical twins and I'm searching to find other ways also because I'm always hungry! Some1 help us...lol0

If you only have a few pounds to lose, eat your maintenance calories and let strength training and cardio do the work of burning the fat. It sounds like you might be hypoglycemic. Worth getting checked out, as well as your base metabolism tested. You might truly not be eating enough.0

Maybe you need more fat in your diet.0

I was just having the same thoughts! No matter what I eat or do not eat I am hungry every two hours! I mean stomach growling hungry! I drink water like others suggest and nope still starving! I get the shakes and major headache! I too was like just get through the pain it will take time but by the time 4 pm rolls around I am ready eat everything and anything! When I stick to my eating plan I wake up to a growling stomach and headache every morning!0

Try to eat a combination of lean protein and complex carbs at the same time....for instance, veggies and chicken, eggs with veggies, peanut butter and wheat bread, etc. I also do fruit smoothies with protein powder, oatmeal with protein powder, etc.
That combination is harder for your body to burn, so it sticks with you longer. Hope that helps. (I last 3 to 4 hours before hunger strikes that way!)0 -
Thank you! I've been snacking on cucumbers for my "afternoon munchies," but they do nothing in the way of making me less hungry.
I'll give the carb/protein thing a whirl today.
I've been eating between 1300-1500 calories a day (5'5", 139), which *should* be enough, right?0 -

Fat and protein early in the day. Ever eat a pork chop for breakfast? Sounds nut's, but fat and protein early in the day help me sustain. Tons of veggies are also a great suggestion.0

I have found that eating complex carbs, protein and fat with every meal every 3 hours works great for me. The combination keeps your energy level high, boost your metabolism and aids in losing weight. Sometimes I can't wait and wind up eating 2 1/2 hours later. Quick tip, add more protein as it is harder for your body to break it down which makes you feel full longer. I average 1g per pound of body weight if not more.0

@princesschic: I LOVE your disclaimer!0

Also...I am trying to become a "clean"(er) eater, and in her book, Tosca Reno says that bee pollen is a natural hunger suppressant, as well as has a multitude of other health benefits. After reading that, I try to add 1 tsp of bee pollen daily. A disclaimer, however: it is awful. When I added it to my oatmeal, it turned a horrible baby poop color and tasted terrible. I tried to take a spoonful, but it dissolves on your tongue while simultaneously getting stuck in your molars, so the bad taste lingers. I have resorted to adding a tsp to a shotglass of warm water, chugging it quickly, and then drinking water.0

My aunt went on a bee pollen kick for awhile. Don't they make it in capsule form?0

Are you drinking enough? Sometimes when I feel hungry, all I really need is a drink!0

If you're to the point where you're shaky, I think it's low blood sugar.
Haven't ever had a pork chop for breakfast but I get the concept! I recently started eating more protein for breakfast (typically 2-3 eggs on a sandwich thin with cheese) and find that it keeps me full for a LONG time. Veggies and fruit don't fill me up either, in fact, if I try to just eat them by themselves, I'll likely get indigestion which will make me feel like I'm still hungry. And if I try just eating a salad with no meat, cheese or bread, I'll be starving in an hour.
Eggs aren't for everyone but maybe invest in some protein powder and either make a shake in the morning or add a scoop to your oatmeal. And try adding nuts, nut butters, avocados, etc in to your snacks to help them stick to your ribs better.0 -
Besides checking your protein, also increase your fiber if you can. Fiber takes a long time to digest, so it makes you feel full longer.
What is your weight loss setting per week (.5, 1, ...)? Because you have little to lose, it should be set at .5 per week.
Also because you have little to lose, incorporate strength training instead of cardio if you are performing any exercise.0 -
I had the same problem with veggies and salad until I started loading my salads with beans. Black beans, mushrooms, chickpeas, green beans, peas, etc. with some hard boiled egg on top. That will keep me full for a good amount of time.0

Unfortunately, appetite and metabolism are not that closely linked. Often, the metabolism slows down and it takes the body quite a while to update the appetite impulse. I have a thyroid condition that causes increased metabolism and out of control appetite is a side effect. The doctor put me on medication to control the metabolism, and it works right away. But I was still hungry...ravenously hungry ALL the time. I talked to the doctor about it (comlained might be a better word...LOL), and he told me that I could work to get my appetite under control by eating less. He said that if you don't feed the appetite for a while it will diminish. I was skeptical, but he is a doctor so I gave it a shot. Turns out he was right! And it only took a couple of weeks in my case. Every body is different, but you can conquer that appetite if you don't give in to it.
Best of luck to you!0 -
I did get one of those high fiber high protein cereals, which has helped A LOT for the mornings. I think maybe I need to have my bigger meal at lunch-time too, and then start thinking smaller for dinner.
I'll definitely have to hard-boil some eggs too; that's a great idea!
I've been doing some hardcore yoga to build muscle, and bike riding and horseback riding for basic cardio, BUT, I have to eat before I work out or I can't make it. I had a good fruit salad before yoga the other day, but was still a little hungry. I felt like I was going to completely pass out half-way through the class.

Those symptoms can sometimes mean hypoglycemia! Get your blood sugar levels checked...maybe you'll find out something that will help you both with weight AND overall health in it! Good Luck!0

All of my meals and snacks include protien, fiber and carbs and I am never (I mean, almost never!) hungry any more. This week I tried out greek yougurt, blueberries and honey for breakfast, and I have a hard time even thinking about a snack for well over four hours - by then it's lunch time!
Protien powder is awesome too - I have gotten used to the flavor, but it took some time and just thinking, "man, my body needs this - if it's the only weird tasting thing I ever have to eat, I'm doing okay!" So a serving of protien powder in water with a granola bar is a great snack too.
I do ditto the others that your symptoms sound like hupoglycemia, though - definitely get that checked out!0 -
It would make sense if I am - my dad is hyperglycemic. I'm not super big on the doctor though - wouldn't they just tell me to eat frequently?0

I have been combining some my food made a tasty treat. My partner loves it and I love it. One is my version of fruit salad since I don’t like every fruit and my partner doesn’t either. I cut strawberries into pieces, cut apples into lengths, add cantaloupe slices, watermelon slices, grapes, and cut my banana in circles then mix up to a bowl then I got my fruit salad. For snack if I am tired of bread I use wheat flatbread. I spread any kind peanut butter on my flatbread and make sure it cover then cut my bananas into circles and place them down the middle. Then fold over to where cover the bananas sand fold the other over. There my way to peanut butter and banana wrap. I made a healthier way to eat strawberries and bananas without the juice. Just cut the strawberries into small pieces and bananas into pieces in put them in a bowl, and then u got strawberries and bananas without the juice. I have discovered a wonderful drink mix called crystal light strawberry and banana hunger control. It helps my partner and I get full fast. Anything else I should try just message me or post it. May god bless u. I need some inspiration so I can share to my partner.0

I have a issue with this as well, my doctor and trainers recently informed me that its because ones blood sugar is low and it can be difficult to treat since you dont want eat something sugary every time your hungry have headaches or fainting spells and dizziness. For breakfast maybe try to eat more fats that our blood sugar and body need such as- veggies-fruits(great for blood sugar issues) cook with olive oil- and sometimes Hemp seeds which you can purchase at whole foods markets can help big time. They help control you apatite and you eat them with your meals. Plus factor- completely natural. i have hyperglycemia and i know how you feel it can be a pain but keep it up and try to eat more natural sugars and hopefully youll feel better. Its different for different people, but this has worked me incredibly well. I hope you feel better! and keep at it your doing great!0

I would also try tweaking your maronutrients. Try fewer carbs, more fats and protein and see if this helps with both hunger and the shakes,,,,0
