Is it okay to call a cat 'grey cat'?

We have just got a new kitten and she is grey. My son and wife want to call it Smokey, but I think 'Grey Cat' is more appropriate.
My wife says that Grey Cat is a stupid name, and that she would be too embarrassed to take it to the vet.
Should I give in, or put my foot down on this one!

Why don't you call it Christian ? Get it? That would seem like a good compromise4

Tbh I named my grey cat Theon because y'know, Greyjoy. :^)5

Not smokey... Grey cat is more original.3

I'd go with your wife and son on this one or compromise with a bit of both?
Hmm, u mean like smokey kitten or something? I think that works, I will try that on them in the morning.

Still lame... You should combine that and call it "Smitten." That's adorable5 -

Call him Gotham Grey.
That's the paint color of my car incidentally.1 -
My husband is a retired veterinarian & I worked with him. We had a client who named his dog “Killer”. The wife named the same dog “Princess”. The whole life of the dog, the wife made appointments for “Princess”, but the husband brought in “Killer”. The loving pampered dog seemed to understand both names & was happy just for attention. Why not name the cat “Smokey Gray Cat”?2

I like Gray Cat. It's very original in its seemed lack of originality.
People are always trying to come up with synonym names. Why bother.
Little Black Kitty agrees with me by the way. She's not my cat, but her owners named her Rylee. Bleh. She likes Little Black Kitty much better.1 -
Go to the back door, shake box of kibble, shout "Grey Cat! Dindins!"
If you feel stupid, then it's not a good name.3 -
Ashley - Ash for short0
-
call it Gris...it's French for Grey
we called our second dog Two so probably I'm not one to ask about pet names2 -
I can't believe this cat hasn't told you what its name is yet.2

Is your son named "Boy?"5

I had a cat we called Little Kitty. She had a "real" name but I can't remember it. You can name a cat anything and call them anything. So let them name the cat Smokey, and call the cat Grey Cat. We all know the cat will only respond to whoever had food, whenever it feels like it.
Or compromise with Greysmoke.0 -
True story. We had 4 cats at the same time. They were named: storm, cloud, rain, and misty0

maybe grey catherine and then grey cat for short0

smokey is cliche and boring
grey cat is much better2 -
I like Gray Cat. Too many cats named Smokey out there already. Our grey cat is named Lola but mostly we call her variations with grey in the name (Crazy Grey, Lady Grey, things like that), so even if they go with Smokey you can still go with Grey Cat - they really don't care as long as they are well fed.1
